Open now for dinner in soft open status

By Patrick Robinson

With a combined fifty years of experience the crew at Burger Planet in White Center have made nearly every cuisine in the world. The owner Marco Jimenez and his chef Marco Chavez both came from the world of corporate cooking for well known restaurants like Cactus and thousands at Microsoft. Seeking something he could call his own Jimenez opened his Burger Planet food truck in 2017. Now they've opened in the former Zippy's Burgers location at 9614 14th SW.

They oepn now in soft open status. The grand opening is set for Sept. 30th.

From the beginning the idea was to blend a space theme with a menu reflective of his experience as a chef having made everything from teriyaki to Italian food.

Junction Fall Festival was fun and funny

Offering everything from a cornhole tournment to pie eating contests to a chili cookoff the West Seatlte Junction Fall Festival was perfect cool weather fun on Sept. 24.

The chili cookoff, out of seven area restaurants, was won by Husky Deli with Margie's Cafe close behind. Festival attendees could get all seven flights of chili tastes for ten dollars. Proceeds help defray the cost of the festival.

The cornhole tournament was won by Team TK, with the Corn Dawgs and Dos Lobos rounding out the top three teams.

Pies from Ala Mode Pies were the focus of both the adult and youth pie eating contests.

A dance troupe entertained the crowd by performing Michael Jackson's Thriller.

These activities were part of the Junction’s late October event last year, but are being moved to September for 2023. Halloween in the Junction  will still be presented on October 29, with the costume parade and trick-or-treat/craft/activity stations.

Update 9-21-23

Incredibly, now it's eight times. Globlal Smoke and Vape has been hit by criminals for the eighth time since August 24. This time it was an attempted break in and this time they damaged A Pizzs Mart next door too. Glass there was destroyed but nothing was stolen. New metal bollards were installed yesterday in front of Global Vape and new plywood and a solid door were in place to prevent future smash and grab incidents.

Original Post

Global Smoke and Vape near the corner of 35th SW and SW Roxbury was hit by smash and grab robbers early Wednesday. This is the seventh time the store has been victimized since August 24 and the second time this week.

The crime took place around 2 am and the owner was alerted by his security system. The surveillance video his system captured shows four people ransacking the store, and then running out to get into another vehicle.

OP-ED Sound Transit presents an excellent case for the No Build Alternative

EDITORS NOTE: Marie McKinsey is a member of ReThinktheLink.org an organization that is hoping to cause Sound Transit and voters to not build a light rail extension to West Seattle. She says "I live in Seattle, Washington. I'm the mom of 3, grandma of 4. I've had careers in healthcare, communications and landscape design.  I've been blogging since 2010. When Sound Transit's ST3 project went to voters in 2016, 54% voted to approve it. Those voters undoubtedly believed that light rail would reduce pollution and improve transportation in the region.

And the hefty price tag, $54 billion, seemed worth it to them. Small price to pay to help save the planet.
