Delridge Winter Market brings holiday cheer Dec. 14

Get ready for a festive day at the Delridge Winter Market on December 14th, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, at the Youngstown Cultural Arts Center, located at 4408 Delridge Way SW, Seattle, WA. This event, organized by the African Community Housing and Development, Delridge Neighborhood Development Association, and King Conservation District, promises a delightful experience with free entry, live music, and much more.

The Delridge Winter Market is a special extension of the beloved Delridge Farmers Market, which concluded in the fall. To keep the community spirit alive, the new indoor winter market will feature both new and returning vendors, offering unique cultural foods and handmade artisan goods.

Art of Music offering four locations for Dec. 12 West Seattle Artwalk

The next free admission Art of Music performances presented by the West Seattle Junction Association are coming up on Second Thursday Art Walk Evening December 12 at four locations (with a double feature in the Alaska Junction): MoonGirl at Great American Diner & Bar in the Alaska Junction, harpist Alyvia Miller at CAPERS in the Alaska Junction,  Taylor John Hardin at West Seattle Grounds in the Admiral District, and Willow Scrivner at Beveridge Place Pub in the Morgan Junction. 

Explosion on a boat in Elliott Bay; One person on board rescued

A fire on board a boat in Elliott Bay around noon on Sunday, apparently caused by an explosion. Only one person was on board the boat at the time. That person was rescued by a civilian boater and taken ashore.

The was visible from West Seattle and other points around the bay. It was listed at being in the 1600 block of Harbor Ave SW.

Hometown Holidays in the Junction lit up the night

The West Seattle Junction Hometown Holidays 2024 Tree Lighting event Dec. 7 was festive, and well attended, despite having what organizers called a "Charlie Brown Christmas Tree." Earlier in the week the tree at Junction Plaza Park had been pruned by a man with mental health issues. The man is known and an effort will be made next week to reach out and get him some help. The tree will need to be replaced according to the West Seattle Junction Merchants Association.

The event hosted by Brian Callanan, included a Night Market with more than 15 vendors, a Pet Costume Contest, the Endolyne Children's Choir, The School of Rock West Seattle the Metropolitan Singers, a Beer Garden, Santa Claus himself and of course the lighting.

Students envision salmon-filled future for Schmitz Park and a transformed park leading to a new Alki

On December 6th, at the Alki Bathhouse, the University of Washington's Master of Landscape Architecture studio presented their designs for the future of Schmitz Park. Sponsored by SchmitzParkCreekRestore.org, the presentation outlined visionary plans to connect the park's creek to Puget Sound, restoring the natural flow of water and salmon to the area.

The event began with an introduction by Dan Nye, a longtime resident of West Seattle and a driving force behind the project. He emphasized the sacred nature of the land, acknowledging the indigenous people who stewarded the area for centuries before it became a park. Dan highlighted the importance of honoring this legacy through the restoration efforts.

He expressed gratitude to various individuals and organizations involved in the project. This included:

Ballard hosts Franklin for an 8:30 p.m. Friday game as Chief Sealth goes on the road to Blanchet.

Evergreen entertains Tyee at 7 p.m. Tuesday and Highline hosts Foster at 7:15 p.m.

At 7:30 p.m. it's Lincoln at Chief Sealth, Blanchet at Ballard and West Seattle at Garfield.

Foster will be at home playing Clover Park at 7:15 p.m. next Thursday and Highline travels to Tyee at 7:30 p.m.

 

Girls basketball

Mount Rainier entertains Eastside Catholic for 3 p.m. Saturday action and Evergreen hosts Tyee at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Highline will be at home playing Foster at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Chief Sealth hosts Rainier Beach for a 7:30 p.m. game that day as Ballard entertains Blanchet and West Seattle goes to Garfield.

Exciting new game arcade "Gary’s Place" set to open in West Seattle Dec.19

Get ready for a blast from the past with a modern twist at Gary’s Place, a new game arcade from the owners of West Seattle Arcade, set to celebrate its grand opening on December 19th. Located at 2820 Alki Ave SW, Suite 2, Gary’s Place promises an exciting array of games and a fantastic experience for all ages.

With 33 games on offer, visitors can enjoy timeless classics like Ms. Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, and Asteroids, alongside popular Japanese rhythm games like DDR. Pinball enthusiasts will be thrilled with the lineup, featuring machines like Labyrinth, Uncanny X-MEN Premium, and Pulp Fiction. The season of mail and package theft is here

A series of recent mail truck break-ins serves as a good reminder – that holiday theft season is here.

On Tuesday afternoon dispatchers received reports of a United State Postal Service (USPS) truck that was broken into at 42nd Avenue Southwest and Southwest Graham Street in West Seattle. 

Officers arrived and contacted the mail carrier. The carrier said she was on foot, making deliveries just after 12:30 p.m., when someone broke into her locked truck.

The mail carrier said she was walking back to her delivery truck when she was approached by a man. The man told her he saw a woman remove two full trays of mail from inside of the truck then before driving away in a white SUV.

15 year old shot to death in High Point; Suspects unknown

Seattle police are investigating the shooting death of a 15 year old boy  in High Point Wednesday night. 

Reports of screaming and sounds of gunfire prompted a police response  to Southwest Bataan Street and 30th Avenue SW around 10:15pm

When officers arrived, they found -the victim with a gunshot wound to his stomach.

He was treated at the scene and he was taken to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition but died later.

According to SPD the suspects fled the scene and were not located.

There is no suspect information.
