The contest begins with a written, qualifying round, open to all paying contestants ($10 fee). After a break with live music by Alice Strassburger (alumni), the top spellers then participate in a traditional (live) spelling bee.
All proceeds benefit Salmon Bay and there's a $50 cash prize for the top speller.
Cash donations for entrance accepted at door, donations for drinks (beer, wine, or the infamous Bee Sting) gladly accepted—plus the live bee offers a $10 buy-back.
