Boo! It's Halloween in Ballard, and there is plenty of stuff to do.
We all know, with all the decorations going up in nearly every restaurant and store, that Ballard is possibly the best place in the world to celebrate Halloween.
Below, you can find some events the Ballard News-Tribune has collected together for you to celebrate in. Happy Halloween!

Halloween on Holman
Saturday, Oct. 27, 1-4 p.m. -- Maybe you don't feel like going Trick-or-Treat on Wednesday. Well, families can make their way to Carkeek Plaza and Holman Road Square, where there will be treats, prizes and whatever else they can muster up down there.
Free Halloween Concert “Murder, Mayhem & Madness”
Sunday, Oct. 28, 2 p.m. -- At the Ballard Odd Fellows Lower Hall, the Ladies Musical Club of Seattle is presenting a program of music with a Halloween theme. Includes music for two oboes, English horn, piano, and soprano.
Woodland Park Zoo Pumpkin Bash
OK, so it's not Ballard, but who could give up the opportunity to see some pumpkins get smashed by adorable animals? Nobody, that's who. And it's happening all weekend long. See the site for more info, and for what animals will have pumpkins at what time. The event is free with zoo admission.
Trick-or-Treat at Downtown Ballard Businesses
Wednesday, Oct. 31 -- Notice all the orange signs up at various businesses around Ballard? That means they will be participating in the downtown trick-or-treat, or what seems like millions of children will stampede through downtown Ballard hunting for candy. Join in on the fun.
And some tips:
- Clear your yard and sidewalk of any obstacles or decorations that may be hard to see in the dark, lest someone go bump in the night.
- Keep your house well lighted, both inside and out; you wouldn't want to miss any particularly good costumes, would you?
- Ask your Neighborhood Watch or local citizen's group to patrol your community.
- Report any suspicious or criminal activity to your police or sheriff's department.
- Older kids should trick-or-treat in groups.
- Review the route for trick-or-treating beforehand and set a time when kids should be home. Also, have a plan if your child gets separated from his or her friends or from you.
- Remind your children not to enter strange houses or cars.
- Remind your children not to eat treat's until they've come home. To help ensure this, feed them a meal or a substantial snack before they go out.
- Check all treats in a well-lighted place. Be especially wary of anything that is not wrapped by the factory or that is no longer sealed.
- Attach reflector strips to costumes and bags, and remind trick-or-treater's to carry glow sticks or flashlights.
