In light of this weekend's news that USA Today named Ballard one of the best ten neighborhoods that tourists haven't heard of, we asked readers to comment on why they thought Ballard was so grand. Because, well, USA Today barely touched the surface.
Here's what we got:
"The Viking!!!!!!!" - Bob
"Delancey!" - Jorge
"The Ballard Sunday Market!" Marjorie (she's our psychic columnist)
"I like the mix of fishing/maritime industries, everything is in walking distance, great restaurants and overall casual feel of Ballard." - Rachel
"Ballard is by far my most favorite neighborhood in Seattle. I love sailing out of Shilshole Bay Marina, dining on the gorgeous waterfront at Ray's Boathouse and Anthony's, sitting on the deck at the Elks Club, quenching my thirst at the Sloop Tavern and Mike's Chili Parlor, sampling seafood at the Ballard Seafood Fest, dancing at Lief Erikson Hall, spending countless wonderful times with friends who live there - and attending my favorite church there, Ballard First Lutheran. I'm not surprised U.S. Today named Ballard as one of America's best 10 neighborhoods - it's terrific!" - Catherine
"I *really* liked Ballard when it was still a little sleepy and you could find parking. Aside from that I still wouldn't want to live in any other neighborhood." Steph
"Well the secret is out. Ballard is a fun rocking time and my 'hood. Parking is free and plentiful, food amazing and there are many many choices to be made. We have over 15 micro brews in our hood right now. Let the brew cruise begin!" - Jodine
However, not everyone took the USA today publicity as good news. Some feared an overwhelming rampage of tourists.
"Well that is the end of that now that is in the USA Today." - Rachel
"please, please, please... if you need popularity for affirmation move to somewhere really cool like NY, LA or Chicago!" said user 'overwhelmed.'
"Turn out the lights when the last vestiges of culture have been eradicated from Ballard on your way out. KthxBai." - Antonie
".....................no.... no no no..." - Tree
