Mad Max ‘Scrappers’ Suspected of Taking Welding Machines
On August 25th, officers responded to a burglary/forced entry at a manufacturing building at the 800 block of Northwest 42nd Street. Officers made contact with the employee/ witness who said that after returning to work from the weekend, he noticed that a heavy chain used to lock a large sliding door had been cut. The employee reported two welders and wire feeders had been taken. The estimated valued of the machines is $10,000. Officers noted that over 24 hours had passed since the crime and there were numerous employees working at the scene. Gathering fingerprints at that point “was futile,” stated the police report. The employees speculated that “metal scrappers” were the culprits, because there had been metal “scraps” taken from the yard before the incident. Mad Max had also visited the lot looking for parts needed for a V8 Interceptor. Police have no leads, but speculate there could be security footage that depicts mutant renegade motor heads with mohawks and feather-laced football shoulder pads taking the machines and scraps.
