Wire thief startled by boat owner, flees on bike
On October 24, Seattle Police officers responded to a burglary that occurred on the dock off the 800 block of Northwest 42nd Street. The complainant told officers that she was sleeping in her boat when she heard loud noises outside. She looked out her window and saw a white man in his 20’s standing over her boat. She called out to the man and startled him. He fled on a bicycle and left two sacks containing copper wiring. Also in the sacks were tools for cutting wire and notebooks with a man’s name written in them. SPD looked up the name in their crime database and found that he had been involved in numerous wire theft crimes. Officers left the wire with the complainant, but took the tools and sacks for evidence.
Business safe cut, $500 taken
On October 24, officers responded to burglary at a business located at the 4400 block of Leary Way Northwest. Employees told officers that when they arrived that morning they found the sliding door had been opened and the alarm deactivated. The safe that contained the business petty cash had been pulled away from the wall. The hinges of the door of the safe had been cut and the door pried open. $500 in cash was taken. A dusty filing cabinet had been pushed away from the safe to gain clearance, and officers found fingerprints in the dust. Officers collected the prints and submitted them for evidence.
Homeless man assaulted by men wielding knife and pipe
On October 27, Seattle Police responded to a stabbing report at the 3900 block of Leary Way Northwest. Officers made contact with the victim at a local hospital. The victim had severe lacerations and swollen red areas on his face and body. The victim was unable to open his eyes. He spoke softly and told officers that he was homeless and that three men he used to room with assaulted him with a knife and a pipe. They took his clothes and toiletries. The victim did not want to reveal the identities of the assailants for fear of retaliation. He told officers to come back when he was not sedated and could think more clearly. Officers drove past where the incident had occurred but did not see any suspects.
