John Kane is a geologist and has over 28 years in the industry.
Kane Environmental, Inc., has just been awarded a five-year, $5 million Environmental Lab Sampling Services Contract for Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Northwest.
Kane is a environmental and geotechnical consulting firm based in Fremont.
“This contract supports our continued growth in the Pacific Northwest and increases our capabilities for our continued expansion throughout the United States,” said John Kane, CEO/President of Kane Environmental.
From starting in a garage in 2000, the company has grown over the years. Kane employs 10 people, including himself, who are professionals in environmental engineering or geology.
Headquartered in Fremont, Kane Environmental has offices in Portland, Oregon, San Francisco, Mississippi, and Maryland, as well as nationwide project experience in 23 states.
“We really are the ones that clean up the sights. We are the implementers of the regulations. We are the folks that get the work done. My team has cleaned up millions of gallons of ground water in this state in the last 15 years and tens of thousands of tons of contaminant soils have been recycled from projects that we’ve worked on. We do a lot in terms of clean up.”
The contract is an “on call” agreement. Kane’s company will be primarily collecting soil, storm water, ground water and other samples from different project sites at naval bases. Kane facilitates the testing process by taking the samples to subcontracted analytical labs, providing fast turn around for the Navy.
Kane will serve all nine naval stations in the Puget Sound area.
“This is a game changer for us. It provides creditability for the company and shows we can handle a project of this size. It was a tough, competitive process, so it shows we can put together a solid proposal that meets the strict requirements of the client.”
Kane said that the Navy has not had a contract like this because they used their own contracts. The Navy has strict health and environmental regulations, and Kane is somewhat familiar with their demands. 15 years ago Kane was contracted by the Navy to do small cleanups on Whidbey Island, but has not worked with the Navy since.
Kane is a geologist and has over 28 years in the industry. The company does a lot of work in Ballard and in the maritime sector.
Kane’s team worked on the Juanita Village project in Kirkland, which had substantial contaminants on sight. Kane did the cleaning.
The Navy is not the only one who has taken notice to Kane Environmental. In October, Puget Sound Business Journal declared the company as the 14th Fastest Growing Company with revenues growing 263 percent between 2011 and 2013.
“I’m walking on air. I’m really pleased. It’s good stuff and a feather in my cap. But it’s not just my name on the proposal; I have a great team of people here. Everybody on the team is real solid, and I’m really proud of everybody. There’s no way I could do this by myself.”
