Tyee and Ingraham took the court for a non-league matchup Thursday night Dec. 22 at Tyee High School. Tyee’s defense would prove to be the key factor in their 43-22 win. Ingraham had no shot attempts through the first half of the opening quarter. Their only point came from a lone free throw as Tyee led 10-1 going into the second quarter. Ingraham’s first made field goal came at the 6:40 mark, 10 minutes and 20 seconds into the game. There would only be two made from Ingraham in the entire half.
Tyee forced over 40 Ingraham turnovers throughout the game, with 27 of them coming from steals. Tyee’s offense struggled in the first half, scoring just 16 points with lots of missed shots in the paint and shooting 0-for-9 from three-point range.
The Totems warmed up in the second half, scoring 27 points compared to the 16 they scored in the first.
Tyee’s Taylor McMillion scored 12 of her 18 points from three pointers, scoring four total. Arinesha Smith had her lowest scoring game this season. Her shot wasn’t falling the way she'd like but she still was able to finish with 18 points. She leads the Seamount League with an impressive 28 points per game.
Tyee head coach Wayne Severson was pleased with how the team’s defense played.
“Our defense played great but our offense started off very slow. We had a lot of in and outs shooting the ball but we missed a lot of easy layups as well.”
Tyee’s next game will be against Sequim on Wednesday, Dec. 28 at Tyee High School for another non-league game.
