Burien Farmers Market offers bounty of fresh produce, handicrafts
Wed, 04/18/2012
Press release:
Find fresh-from-the-farm produce, locally crafted food products and unique handmade wares at the Burien Farmers Market opening Thursday, May 3.
The market operates every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. through October 25 in Burien Town Square in downtown Burien.
Fresh and local are the market’s produce mantra. Just-picked produce is sold directly by farmers from Western Washington, plus a few from the other side of the state. Buying from the farmers themselves means better prices for fresher food, according to Debra George, event manager for the Discover Burien Association.
Among the market’s new edibles are fresh fudge and Washington wines from Piccola Cellars. Seattle Bagels and raw honey will join the many returning vendors offering items such as organic produce, freshly baked goods and one-of-a-kind handicrafts.
Enjoy a lunch of affordable eats from the market’s hotdog cart and other market vendors. Dine at one of the market’s patio tables to live music by Eric “Two Scoops” Moore from noon to 3 p.m.
The market is also seeking buskers to play live music from 3 to 6 p.m. for tips, and they may also sell their CDs. Buskers must check in at the yellow Discover Burien tent first.
On the first Thursday of each month, the Seattle Humane Society MaxMobile will be onsite with loving dogs, cats and even a few rabbits for on-the-spot adoption.
Market customers may make their purchases with Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, debit cards, WIC or EBT cards. Some vendors accept credit cards directly. Otherwise, shoppers can use WIC, debit, credit or EBT cards by purchasing market tokens at the Discover Burien Association booth. Debit and credit tokens can be spent like cash with the majority of the market’s 40-plus vendors. The nonprofit Discover Burien, which produces the market, will not charge a fee for debit card use.
Discover Burien is a nonprofit organization that works on Burien’s economic development, promotion and education.
Sponsored by Prudential Northwest Realty Associates, LLC, and Waste Management, the market will be situated on Fifth Place Southwest off Southwest 152nd Street in Burien Town Square. For more information, call 206-433-2882 or go online to www.discoverburien.com.
