From the opening gun of the first race Highline School District-area teams made their presence felt at the Tuesday, Sept. 7 All-Cities swim meet.
Arbor Heights of the West Seattle/White Center area hosted what is the championship meet for the Seattle Summer Swim League that was first formed in 1960.
The action opened with Reva Zacharias of the Burien-based Gregory Seahurst team winning the girls age 13-14 50-yard freestyle race in a time of 25.45 seconds.
Soon thereafter, Jack Velling, Will McGlothlin, Lucas Richardson and Ian Vanderhoef of Arbor Heights captured second in the boys 8 and under 100 medley relay with a 1:18.56 clocking. Jack Wolff III, Mawell Mudge, Henry Heater and Ethan Reed of Gregory Seahurst were fifth in 1:27.14.
The girls 9-10 100 medley relay had Victoria Dow, Grace Felner, Taylor Johnsen and Jessalynn Traynor of Normandy Park finish fourth in 1:11.03.
Zacharias then teamed up with Angela Gagliardo, Sami Robbins and Emily Zacharias to take the girls 13-14 200 medley relay in 1:53.26.
Arbor Heights' Hannah Tittel, Gracey Sarver, Sophia Minor and Naomi Williams took fourth in the girls 11-12 200 medley relay in 2:09.91 and teammates Ty Lindblom, Brendan Stoll, Benjamin Kinerk and Anthony Giomi were fifth in the boys 11-12 200 medley relay in 2:15.88.
Arbor Heights then had David Danilchik, Jeff Kasahara, Dylan Jergens and Grifffin Voth place third in the boys 13-14 200 medley relay in 1:52.97.
Olympic View of Normandy Park came in fourth in 1:58.93 in the girls 15 and over 200 medley relay with Kristen Lemley, Sonny Dorhofer, Rachel Webster and Maddie Duncanson doing the honors.
Olympic View then followed up with Karli Yoshida-Williams, Kiersten Weiler, Rosalinda Tomich and Ellie Hyde capturing second in the girls 8 and under 100 free relay in 1:11.60. The same foursome was fourth in the girls 8 and under 100 medley relay in 1:24.31.
Arbor Heights' McGlothlin, Vanderhoef, Velling and Richardson came in third in the boys 8 and under 100 free relay in 1:09.67 before Grace Felner of the Normandy Park Sharks came in third in the girls 9-10 100 individual medley in 1:16.99.
Naomi Williams of Arbor Heights was fifth in the girls 11-12 100 IM with a time of 1:09.62 and Tyler Goodspeed sped to third place in the boys 11-12 100 IM, posting a time of 1:09.88. Lucien Gauvin of Gregory Seahurst came in right behind Goodspeed in the race, finishing in 1:11.20.
Gagliardo was second for Gregory Seahurst in the girls 13-14 100 IM in 1:02.50 with Gabby Carufel of Arbor Heights fourth in 1:06.53. Nickolas Hanley of Olympic View placed fourth in the boys 13-14 100 IM in 1:03.54. Rachel Webster of Olympic View was fourth in the girls 15 and over 100 IM in 1:04.91.
Thane Maudslien of Normady Park reeled in a first place trophy in the boys 15 and over 100 IM with his time of 51.89 and Richardson of Arbor Heights was second in the boys 8 and under 25 free in 14.94.
Grace Felner of Normandy Park was second in the girls 9-10 50 free with a time of 29.27 with teammate Victoria Dow fifth in 30.91 and teammate Jessalynn Traynor sixth in 32.48.
Connor Reiff of Normandy Park was second in the boys 9-10 50 free in 30.70 and Emily Zacharias of Gregory Seahurst came in third in the girls 11-12 50 free in 26.80. Williams was fourth in 26.93.
Olympic View's Trey Hunt chased down a second place time of 26.58 in the boys 11-12 50 free just ahead of Normandy Park's Goodspeed in 27.45.
Reva Zacharias then jumped back into the spotlight by winning the girls 13-14 100 free in 55.66 and Niamh Martin of Normandy Park was fifth in 1:03.51.
Arbor Heights' Ann Webber-Bruya placed third in the girls 15 and over 100 free in 56.41 and Jack Wolff III was second for Gregory Seahurst in the boys 8 and under 25 backstroke in 20.34 with Arbor Heights' Jack Velling sixth in 22.59.
Victoria Dow of Normandy Park was second in the girls 9-10 50 back in 36.07 with teammates Traynor (37.90) and Kyra Goodspeed (40.48) coming in fourth and sixth, respectively.
Anders Hunt of Normandy Park then came in third in the boys 11-12 50 back in 33.01 with Lucien Gauvin of Gregory Seahurst fifth in 33.99.
Reva Zacharias of Gregory Seahurst reached the winner's circle for a third time, taking the girls 13-14 50 back in 28.18. Arbor Heights' Carufel was fourth in 30.63.
Jeff Kasahara of Arbor Heights was fourth in the boys 13-14 50 back in 29.34 and Ryan Gansnader of Olympic View was sixth in the boys 15 and over 50 back in 27.30.
Ellie Hyde then came in third in the girls 8 and under 25 breast in 22.06 with Olympic View teammate Avery LaVassar fifth in 22.72. Normandy Park's Matthew Johnsen was sixth in the boys 8 and under 25 breast in 23.78 and Seahurst's Gavin was second in the boys 11-12 50 breast in 34.44.
Gagliardo of Gregory Seahurst came in third in the girls 13-14 50 breast in 33.48 and Kasahara came in third in the boys 13-14 50 breast in 30.95.
Normandy Park's Anna Burdine was fifth in the girls 15 and over 50 breast in 33.78 before Maudslien won the boys 15 and over 50 breast for the Sharks in 27.43.
Lucas Richardson scored Arbor Heights' only win in the boys 8 and under 25 butterfly in 16.12 and Stella Fosberg of Gegory Seahurst took third in the girls 9-10 25 fly in 15.40.
Reiff was second for Normandy Park in the boys 9-10 25 fly in 15.57 and Emily Zacharias of Gregory Seahurst was third in the girls 50 fly in 30.01.
Trey Hunt took second for Olympic View in the boys 11-12 50 fly in 29.11 with Anders Hunt of Normandy Park fifth in 31.59.
Sami Robbins of Gregory Seahurst won the girls 13-14 50 fly in 27.58 and teammate Angela Gagliardo was fifth in 28.72.
Normandy Park's Eric Reiff was second in the boys 13-14 50 fly in 27.24 and Nickolas Hanley of Olympic View came in fifth in 27.79.
Normandy Park's Victoria Dow, Jessalynn Traynor, Kyra Goodspeed and Grace Felner took second in the girls 9-10 200 free relay in 2:05.67 and Gregory Seahurst's Cooper Lazo, Jessica Wakefield, Wren Bergin and Stella Fosberg were sixth in 2:18.10.
Arbor Heights had Vivian Voth, Sophia Minor, Hannah Tittel and Naomi Williams take second in the girls 11-12 200 free relay in 1:51.63 and Camilla Maudslien, Lauren Phelps, KariAnne Bolma and Alecia Reiff of Normandy Park came in sixth in 2:00.76.
Anthony Giomi, Benjamin Kinerk, Ty Lindblom and Brendan Stoll of Arbor Heights were fourth in the boys 11-12 200 free relay and teammates Jeff Kasahara, Griffin Voth, Dylan Jergens and David Danilchik placed third in the boys 13-14 200 free relay in 1:40.61. Joseph Burdine, Sam Johnson, Matthew Williams and Eric Reiff were sixth in the boys 13-14 200 free relay in 1:46.62.
Olympic View's Dorhofer, Lemley, Webster and Duncanson were fourth in the girls 15 and over 200 free relay in 1:45.50.
In the 72nd and final event of the day -- the boys 15 and over 200 free relay -- Normandy Park's Zach Williams, Grant Meyers, Jacob Mutter and Thane Maudslien took third place in a time of 1:32.58.
The Seattle Summer Swim League consists of teams ranging from North Seattle to Federal Way. It is divided in two divisions, with the Southern Division consisting of Arbor Heights, Gregory Seahurst, Normandy Park, Olympic View, Lakeridge, Kent, Marine Hills and Twin Lakes. Top swimmers from the two divisions compete in the All-Cities meet.
