Following a 14-0 first place regular Seamount League championship regular season Kennedy Catholic served and stroked well to the Class 3A Seamount League Boys Tennis Tournament championship.
On Wednesday, Oct. 17 at Tyee High School, results reflected the level of excellence with all Lancer participants in singles qualifying for the semifinals.
Jamie Thorp cruised by Jordan Phu (Hazen) 6-0, 6-0, with his dominating all-around game. Using good, strategic tactics, Brandon Lowry defeated Justin Kemp (Highline), 6-1, 6-1.
Tough competition faced Lancer Sam Harrison, who battled by Kean Legate (Highline),6-4, 6-2.
Even more imposing for Kennedy competition was Nathaniel Tolton's extended match against Aaron Lyons (Highline). Lyons pushed Tolton strongly before the KC athlete emerged with a 7-5 first set decision. In the second set, Lyons took a firmer grip on his racket for a 6-3 win. Tolton then served past Jason Lui (Hazen) to gain his semifinal berth.
In doubles semifinal qualifying action, Vincent Viloria and Tass Sribhidhadh defeated Nguyen and Noinala (Hazen), 6-0, 6-0.
James Dang and Tharm Sribhibhadh were equally as impressive in a two winning sets at love against Savanh and Kang (Hazen).
Connor McKinney teammed up with Alex Mackenzie to take the measure of Austin Allen and Navath Nhan (Highline), 6-1, 6-7, 6-1 before a Hazen pairing defeated the M & M twosome in three torrid sets, 1-6, 6-3, 7-5.
Andy Quackenbush and Chris Riedeman outlasted Berreth and Pabon (Hazen), 6-3, 6-4, but encounterd a tough pairing of Justin Vu and David Villegas Prado of Highline who overcame the Lancer tandem, 6-2, 6-2.
Highline High School closed strongly to tie Hazen for a regular season 11-3 second place and stayed in the mix for West Central District qualifiers.
Despite the inclement weather, most of the matches were completed on Friday, Oct. 19, with a few matches being played on Monday, October 22, at Tyee High School in SeaTac.
Kennedy Catholic No. 1 and No. 2 singles players, Jamie Thorp each won their respective semifinal matches to clinch the two district berths. In the championship match, Thorp defeated teammate Lowry, 6-0, 6-0.
In the third-fourth place match, Tolton of the Lancers earned an alternate position to district with a 6-2, 6-2, win against Harrison. Legate (Highline) defeated fellow Pirate Lyons in the fifth-sixth match up.
The doubles title match featured Viloria and Taas Sribhibhadh (Kennedy Catholic), outlasting Highline's top twosome of Justin Vu and David Villegas Prado, 6-2, 6-2. Both teams advanced to district.
Dang and Tharm Sribhibhadh overcame the strong challenge of Hazen Highlanders Jon Le and Greg Furumasu, 6-4, 7-5, earning a third place alternate to district while McKinney and Mackenzie battled Fabian Berreth and Jared Parbon of Hazen through three sets before emerging with a 4-6, 6-0, 10-8, win in the fifth-sixth doubles fray.
