Press release:
After a highly successful pilot program, the Port of Seattle is extending live music performances through the end of the year at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
A twelve-week pilot program began in March with live music performances from local, Northwest artists at multiple locations in the terminal as part of the Sea-Tac Airport Experience The City of Music program - a cooperative effort by the Port of Seattle, Seattle Music Commission and PlayNetwork.
“There has been a tremendously positive response from the traveling public for the live performances,” said Port of Seattle Commissioner John Creighton. “Passengers have been pleasantly surprised by the entertainment and our performers have received encouraging feedback. It really does improve the passenger experience and celebrate our unique Northwest musical heritage. ”
Two live music performances will continue to take place Monday through Friday, ranging between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at various locations throughout the terminal, both pre- and post-security.
Performance locations can vary as feedback from passengers and detailed traffic flow are taken into consideration for the best enjoyment.
Sites have included spaces inside and outside the security checkpoints, such as the central terminal food court area, concourse A in the food court between gates A5 and A6, the intersection of concourses C and D, the main terminal train stations for the north and south satellites; and outside security at the Gina Marie Lindsey Arrivals Hall.
Times and locations are subject to change and vary based on passenger traffic and traveler feedback. For detailed schedules, locations, a video of live performances, and how musicians can participate, refer to the port website.
The Sea-Tac Airport City of Music program – a cooperative effort by the Port of Seattle, Seattle Music Commission and PlayNetwork – is a comprehensive effort to enhance the traveler experience with the music of Northwest artists including overhead music, safety and public information announcements by artists, curated videos on terminal and baggage claim monitors, and a multi-channel web radio player available through the free airport Wi-Fi network.
In just the first year of the program, the airport playlist has grown to 600 songs with 160 Northwest artists and 32 local artists have volunteered their time to taping overhead welcome, security and informational announcements including such diverse artists as Macklemore, Ben Gibbard, Ann Wilson, Sir Mix-A-Lot, Jerry Cantrell, Fly Moon Royalty, Quincy Jones, Ludovic Morlot, Brandi Carlile, John Popper, Allen Stone and many more.
