Mia Gregerson has announced that she will be seeking an appointment to the Washington House of Representatives. If State Rep. Dave Upthegrove, D - Des Moines, is successful in his bid to replace Councilmember Julia Patterson for fifth district seat on the King County Council, Gregerson plans to seek the appointment to replace Upthegrove. Rep. Upthegrove who has one year left in his two year term.

“It has been a pleasure and a great honor serving the residents of SeaTac as deputy mayor since 2012, and on the SeaTac council since 2008“ said Gregerson. “I am particularly proud how we have become a more inclusive community through policies and funding. I’ve worked hard to ensure that we protect core city services in SeaTac like public safety and public works, while also providing funding for badly needed human services programs. I’m especially proud that we’ve expanded our parks and recreation programs, including funding for the new water spray park at Angle Lake. I am also proud to represent the entire south King County region through boards and committees such as the Food Policy Council at the Puget Sound Regional Council and as the Public Issues Committee Chair with the Sound Cities Association. These venues allow me to bring the message about WHAT disparities we face but also WHY we are a destination in the county to be proud of!”

If Representative Upthegrove earns the position on the King County Council, he must give up his legislative seat. The Precinct Committee Officers of the 33rd Legislative District Democrats organization can forward three possible appointments to the county council which would then choose Representative Upthegrove’s replacement until the 2014 election.

“If I am not selected by the Precinct Committee Officers and the county council for the appointment, I plan to run for the seat during the 2014 election,” says Gregerson. “I feel like South King County needs to be well represented in the Washington State Legislature and I want to make sure that all of our citizens are given their fair shake. I also want to work on improving how we see our scope of work as a state legislature by building strong working relationships beyond the bubble in Olympia. My work with the cities, ports, county and businesses will give me a strong network and foundation to build from.”

Mia Gregerson has lived in the SeaTac area with her family for over 35 years.
