Community Meeting Planned on City Manager Search
Mon, 11/04/2013
The executive recruiting firm hired by the Burien City Council to conduct a search for a new city manager plans a community meeting Tuesday, Nov. 12, to gather information from the public. The meeting will begin at 7 pm in the first floor multi-purpose room in the Burien Library/City Hall, 400 SW 152nd St.
Tom Meulenbeck, senior vice president of Strategic Government Resources (SGR), will ask community leaders and citizens attending the meeting what characteristics the City should look for in a successful candidate, and what issues and challenges the new city manager will need to address. Meulenbeck also will conduct interviews with current City Council members as well as successful Council candidates from the Nov. 5 election, and current City staff members.
SGR will conduct a nationwide search for candidates for the top job at Burien City Hall. The recruiting process is expected to take 4-5 months, with a new city manager on the job by next spring.
City Attorney Craig Knutson has served as interim city manager since last July when City Manager Mike Martin left to take a position in Lynden, WA.
