Gymnastics
State 4A meet
Ava Welch of Mount Rainier came through with a third-place tie in the state Class 4A vault in action at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall that ended Saturday.
Welch scored a 9.600 to knot Jenna Schlosser of Mead after coming in eighth with a 9.300 in preliminary action Friday.
Welch also finished 12th in the all-around with a total of 34.575 points.
Welch was 22nd in the floor exercise with a 9.150, 32nd in the bars with a 7.825 and 38th in the balance beam with an 8.300.
Mount Rainier teammate Regan Hunt finished 15th in the bars with an 8.35 score.

State 1A-2A-3A meet
The three smaller classes that have gymnastics were bunched together for their state action Friday and Saturday.
Danielle Carnahan of Kennedy came in 12th in the all-around out of the bunch with a total of 22.900 points.
Carnahan was 73rd in the bars with a 6.700, 79th in the vault with a 7.825 and 81st in the floor exercise with an 8.375.
Nieves Alvares of Highline finished 81st in the vault with a 7.800 score.

Boys swimming
State 3A meet
Kennedy Catholic captured ninth place in the 3A portion of the state high school swimming and diving meet that concluded Saturday at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way with 87 points.
Tommy Thach led the way for the Lancers, taking second in the 200-yard individual medley with an All-American Automatic time of 1 minute, 50.29 seconds and second in the 100 butterfly in an All-American Consideration time of 50.30.
The Lancers opened the meet by taking 19th in the 200 medley relay in 1:49.29, with Ian Olufson coming in 13th in the 100 freestyle in 49.50.
Nathan Williams of Highline placed 18th in the 500 free in 5:09.77 before JFK took seventh in the 200 free relay in 1:31.29 and ninth in the 400 free relay in 3:21.99.

State 4A meet
Mount Rainier took 17th place in the state 4A classification with 43 points, led by diver Nathan Da Dalto taking ninth place with 329.15 points. Teammate Conrad Peyton took 12th with 304.70 points.
The Mount Rainier 200 free relay team came in 10th in 1:31.03 and the Rams were 13th in the 400 free relay in 3:23.12.
Grant Meyers finished 14th in the 200 free in 1:49.33 and 17th in the 100 free in 49.98.
Joseph Burdine was 17th for the Rams in the 500 free in 5:08.90.

Boys wrestling
State 4A meet
Noel Eng of Mount Rainier battled back from an opening round loss to take sixth in the 106-pound weight class in the state meet that concluded Saturday at the Tacoma Dome.
Eng was pinned by Cooper McCullough of Moses Lake in his opening match with 3:39 elapsed, but he bounced back to beat Jordan Zuniga of Heritage in 3:32, Sidat Kenyi of Edmonds-Woodway by injury default and Bobby Guzman of Pasco by a 7-4 score.
Eng then lost by an 11-2 score to eventual third place finisher Jeremy Nygard of Arlington before losing the fifth place match to Jed Klein of Bellarmine in 3:33 to finish sixth.

State 3A meet
Zach Edson of Highline started off on the right foot and won two of four matches before bowing out in state 3A action, also at the Tacoma Dome.
Edson beat Moses Griffen of Decatur by pin in 6:44 then lost to Jesse Torres of Sunnyside, 6-1.
Edson then scored a 13-2 victory over Riley Riffe of Shelton before dropping a narrow 4-3 decision to Isaiah Heredia of Ferndale.
Sabastian Ferraro of Kennedy also won two of fourth state 3A matches, wrestling at 220 pounds.
Ferraro dropped his first match to Dan Coulter of Timberline in 1:06 before winning his first consolation match over Austin Brown of Marysville, 11-2. He beat Tim Smith of Meadowdale, 8-3, in his third match before losing his fourth to Robby Calvert of Kennewick, 6-1.
JFK teammate Alex Lesor also wrestled at 220 pounds.
He lost his first match to Jake Grantham of North Thurston in 1:12 before taking a 5-1 loss to Ray Quinday of Oak Harbor.

State 2A meet
Luis Cuellar of Foster and Lam Phung of Evergreen both exited in two matches in the 2A action at the Tacoma Dome.
Cuellar lost to Bryce Bock of Centralia in 1:07 and to Corbin of Granite Falls in 1:41.
Phung lost to Wes Fluery of Burington in 2:21 and lost, 10-3, to Clark Smith of Tumwater.

Girls wrestling
Combined state meet
Sophia Munoz of Highline won one of three matches at 235 pounds at the girls meet that combined all state classifications.
Munoz beat Cassidy Ochon of Sunnyside by pin in 3:58 before losing to KC Moulden of Enumclaw in 1:20.
She then lost to Amber Cramsey-Behnke of Oak Harbor, 4-0, to be eliminated from the action.
Cecilia Vu of Evergreen wrestled at 112 pounds.
She took a pin at the hands of Jasmine Pleasants of Thomas Jefferson 44 seconds into her opener and lost, 6-1, to Miranda Borrego of Zillah.

Boys basketball
Kennedy 65, Enumclaw 62
Kennedy took the West Central District's fifth and final Class 3A berth into the state regionals with Saturday's win.
Michael Sasonoff led the Lancers with 16 points as James Jolly scored 15, AJ McGrew 12 and Parker Diller 11.
Kennedy Catholic will play its state regional Friday night, taking on University of Spokane at Central Valley of Spokane at 6 p.m.
Foster 66, Bremerton 49
The Bulldogs captured third place in the West Central District 2A tournament to also earn their way to state regionals.
Foster will play Hockinson in a 2 p.m. Saturday game at Kent-Meridian.

Girls basketball
Kennedy 50, Lincoln 48
Kennedy Catholic placed third in the 3A West Central District girls division with Saturday's victory over Lincoln of Tacoma.
Diondra Bourgette led the Lancers with 16 points and Myah Williams scored 11.

Friday, Feb. 21
Boys basketball
Kennedy 51, Auburn-Mountainview 32
The Lancers kept their season alive with Friday's decisive win.
University Prep 46, Seattle Christian 33
Seattle Christian lost Friday's match for fifth place in the 1A Tri-District tournament to University Prep at Mountlake Terrace despite getting 21 points from Cody Miller. The Warriors' season then ended with a loss to Cascade Christian on Saturday.
The two games took place at Mountlake Terrace.
White River 65, Foster 60
Foster took a narrow loss to White River in Friday's 2A West Central District semifinal.
Isaiah Lewis led the Bulldogs with 22 points as Ronnie Roberson scored 11 and Ben Mitchell 10.
