Seattle Lutheran scored 11 runs in the top of the seventh inning Saturday to turn a close 4-3 baseball game against Seattle Christian into a 15-3 rout.

The Saints of West Seattle improved their overall record to 8-1 with the non-league win under sunny skies as the Warriors of SeaTac fell to 7-2.
"I thought it was just a total team effort," said Seattle Lutheran head coach David Sleighter. "The guys all hit and we had guys give themselves up for bunts and it all added up."

Everything added up the best for Saints freshman J.J. Young, who blasted five doubles in five at-bats and also threw the first four innings for the win on the mound.

Young struck out seven and left when his team had the 4-3 lead.
"J.J. played spectacular," said Sleighter. "He's just a freshman, and that guy can hit and he pitched good, too."

Young was pleased as he left the Seattle Christian diamond.

"I kind of hit the ball and didn't think about anything," he said.
SCS head coach Chris Fox was not overly disappointed with the loss.

"This was a non-league game and we played it differently than they did," said Fox, whose team defeated Life Christian, 5-3, in a Nisqually League game the day before and faces three league games this coming week including Monday and Tuesday. "We put JV kids in. But it was a lesson well learned. Down the road we're going to be real good. It's on the rise."

Seattle Lutheran scored the first run in the top of the first Saturday as Ben Sanders singled to right, advanced on a Jovi Fevaleiki grounder and scored on Young's first double, which went to right center before the other four went to left field.

Another run was tacked on in the second.

Matt Weiler walked and Jacob Fincher bunted him to second before a pair of errors scored him.

Seattle Christian scored all three of its runs in the bottom of the inning.

Nate Wollam walked and advanced on back-to-back balks before Sawyer Smith walked and stole second. A throw on the steal went wild to score Wollam and Smith scored as Eric Cadwell doubled over the left fielder's head.

Ryan Minami moved him along with a bunt for a hit that almost worked and Jackson McKenna-Kier singled him home.

But the Saints scored a run in the third to tie it up again at 3-3.
Young doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a wild pitch and a Cody Jones grounder.

Seattle Christian left the bases loaded in the second, third and fourth on Young strikeouts and went up, 4-3, in the fifth as Fevaleiki singled, went to third on a Young double and scored on an Abijah Smith single after Jones was hit by a pitch.

Jones took the mound for Seattle Lutheran and shut Seattle Christian down on no hits with six strikeouts in three innings and the Saints marched to 11 runs in the seventh for a massive insurance policy.
Young doubled to lead it off and also hit an RBI double later in the rally.

Brandon Luow doubled in two runs in the inning and Weiler, Fincher, Fay, Fevaleiki and Smith all singled and Jones was intentionally walked twice.

Sanders and Toan Nguyen both hit into errors.
