Clean Sweep & Shred Day
Burien Fire Station 900 S.W. 146th St. Sat., April 26, 8-1 p.m. Burien Clean Sweep: Volunteers gather at 8 a.m. at the fire station for coffee, juice, donuts, etc. They are then assigned to a team, given supplies and dispatched to an area of Burien to clean up trash. At Noon the crews return to the fire station for a hot dog lunch and raffle with prizes donated by area businesses. Shredding Fundraiser takes place at 611 S.W. 152nd St., 9 a.m--Noon. Last year 8.15 tons of garbage was collected - attendance 400 people.
SW King School Retirees Association Meeting
Wesley Terrace 816 S. 116th St. Mon., April 28, 10 a.m. New location & time, this month only. A donation $6 lunch will be served. The guest speaker is Dr. George Scranton, Professor of Speech & Drama at SPU. Dr. Scranton is an actor/storyteller, who takes the audience for an imaginary walk, back in time as the House of Lords debate slavery. This is the last time to collect money for the local food banks to be matched by the Feinstein Foundation. Also, bring other items like small toiletries, glasses & glass cases and books, etc. Information: Eileen 206-878-3294. Bring another retiree with you.

Volunteers Urgently Needed to Advocate for Long-Term Care Residents
Volunteers are needed in the Burien, Tukwila, Des Moines, SeaTac and West Seattle communities. Informational Seminars “The Role of the Long Term Care Ombudsman Volunteer” will be April 26, 10 a.m. at Providence Mount St. Vincent, West Seattle and April 30, 5 p.m. in Federal Way. A four-day Training/Certification Program takes place May 7, 8, 28 & 29, 8-5 p.m. daily, in Federal Way. A volunteer ombudsman makes visits to long-term care facilities to meet with residents and their families, providing information on resident rights and working to resolve problems on behalf of residents. Volunteers must attend training to get state certified and then devote 4 hours/week to visit and monitor assigned facilities. Tukwila Community Center 12424 42nd Ave. S. Sun., May 4, 1-4 p.m. SSCC is an entirely volunteer-run non-profit wildlife rehabilitation center in King County, WA. We specialize in the care and release of wildlife in King County and surrounding areas. Funds raised from the auction will be used to benefit these animals, many of whom would die without our help.
