Commercial Structure Fire in Kent
Sun, 05/25/2014
Kent Fire Investigators are preparing to enter the burned remains of a commercial building following a fire in the 26000 block of 104 Ave. SE.
The fire, which was first reported at 12:30 pm, formerly was a Keg Restaurant, though it has sat vacant for many years. When firefighters from the Kent Fire Department RFA and the Renton Fire Department arrived, they found smoke and flames coming from the single story structure.
Because of the age of the building, how long it had burned, and the heavy HVAC systems on the roof, much of the firefighting was done from the exterior due to the possibility of collapse. In fact, a section of the roof that supported the kitchen ducting did collapse shortly after firefighters withdrew from the building.
It took approximately two hours to fully extinguish the fire.
There were initial reports of a man leaving the building at the same time as the fire. That person, an adult male, was questioned by police and fire investigators. He was also checked for any injuries, but was unharmed. There were no other reports of injuries.
The fire is currently under investigation.
