Sports events worth keeping an eye on

High schools
Football
The high school football regular season opens with a double-header at Highline Memorial Stadium on Friday.
Ballard plays Highline at 5 p.m. ahead of an 8 p.m. game between Evergreen of White Center and Nathan Hale.
Chief Sealth is home for a 5 p.m. game at the Southwest Athletic Complex across the street from its campus, and Foster is home against Interlake at 7 p.m.
Mount Rainier of Des Moines opens at Tahoma at 7 p.m. in Maple Valley.
Saturday Kennedy Catholic entertains Franklin at 1 p.m. at Highline Memorial and West Seattle goes to Juneau, Alaska for 7 p.m. action.
Golf
The golf season tees off Thursday of this week.
The Mount Rainier boys host Kentwood at 3:15 p.m. at Riverbend and the girls go to Kentwood at the same time.
West Seattle hosts Franklin that afternoon and Chief Sealth is at Ingraham.
Tuesday's schedule has Chief Sealth home against Nathan Hale and West Seattle at Garfield.
The Mount Rainier boys host Kentlake as the girls visit Kentlake.
Girls soccer
Evergreen, Mount Rainier, Tyee and Highline all play in the Highline School District Jamboree starting at 10 a.m. Saturday.
West Seattle gets a 3:30 p.m. visit from Mount Rainier on Monday, then Tuesday's schedule has Rogers at Mount Rainier at Highline Memorial at 7 p.m. and JFK at King's at 6 p.m.
Volleyball
Mount Rainier opens with a 7:15 p.m. road match at Bethel on Monday.
Foster is at home playing Washington next Wednesday as West Seattle goes to Franklin.
Boys tennis
Mount Rainier journeys to Kentwood for a 3:30 p.m. match Tuesday, then Wednesday's schedule has Tyee at Evergreen, Kennedy at Foster and Renton at Highline.
Pro and college
Seahawks
Seattle opens its defense of its National Football League championship on Thursday, hosting the Green Bay Packers for a 5:30 p.m. game at CenturyLink Field.
Channel 5 will show the game live.
Mariners
Seattle is in Oakland playing the Athletics at 12:35 p.m. on Wednesday before going to Texas for 5:05 p.m. action Thursday, Friday and Saturday and for a 12:05 p.m. game Sunday.
The Mariners come home to Safeco Field to play the Houston Astros at 7:10 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
ROOT Sports cable television carries Mariners games live.
Sounders
Seattle visits Chivas USA for a 7:30 p.m. match on Channel 13 on Wednesday.
Huskies
The University of Washington is at home playing Eastern Washington at 12 p.m. Saturday on the Pac-12 network.
Cougars
Washington State University is at Nevada for a 7:30 p.m. game Friday on ESPN.
Emerald Downs
The Auburn track opens its gates at 6:45 p.m. Friday and at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
