Thomas Jefferson got the best of the Mount Rainier, 43-0, in a battle of previously winless football teams at Federal Way Memorial Field Thursday.
The Raiders ran their record to an even 1-1 in South Puget Sound League Northwest Division action with the win and to 1-4 overall while knocking the Rams to 0-2, 0-5.
TJ wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard.
Zach Grayson scored from the 20-yard line on a left end run with only 1 minute, 40 seconds elapsed in the first quarter and teammate Kenneth Turner ran for the two point conversion to already make it an 8-0 game.
The lead remained that way until the first play of the second quarter.
This time it was Nathen English running around the right side for a touchdown from 21 yards out.
Grayson passed to Lonyae Jones for the two-point conversion to up the margin to 16-0 with seven seconds off the clock.
The Raiders ran roughshod the rest of the half to break the game open.
Mason DeLaCruz fired off a 13-yard pass to Grayson on the right side for a 13-yard score.
The two-point conversion attempt failed to leave the margin at 22-0 with 9:24 left before halftime.
Thomas Jefferson found the end zone again with 6:11 to go.
Julius Jackson scored from 18 yards out around the left end and Justin Yoon slipped to extra point through the uprights for a 29-0 margin.
Yoon also kicked the extra point after Jackson hauled in a 4-yard pass from DeLaCruz to up the advantage to 36-0 with only 1:53 left in the half.
The Raiders scored again with 3:29 remaining in the third quarter to bring the game into a running clock situation on the 40-point differential mercy rule.
Grayson went around the left side for a 2-yard touchdown run and Yoon booted the extra point for the 43-0 final margin.
Mount Rainier came close to scoring in the fourth quarter.
The Rams moved the ball to the TJ 6-yard line before a sack pushed them back.
Mount Rainier wound up facing a fourth down and seven situation and opted for a field goal attempt.
The 40-yard try with about 6:50 left on the running clock by Tyler Keene went wide right.
