Kennedy Catholic
The Lancers split four matches at the West Central District Class 3A tournament held at Auburn-Mountainview to fall short of this weekend's state tournament. Kennedy Catholic finished with a 25-3 overall record, but was without the talents of Shayne McPherson -- the Seamount League Most Valuable Player -- because of an ankle injury. The Lancers opened with a 3-0 victory over Kelso on Friday, Nov. 7 to set up a second match that evening with a state berth on the line. North Thurston got the best of the Lancers, however, by a 3-0 game score.
JFK rebounded to beat Bonney Lake, 3-0, the next morning but were eliminated by Prairie, 3-1.
The Lancers needed to win that much plus one more to get to state by way of the loser's half of the bracket.
Evergreen
The Wolverines were eliminated from the West Central District Class 2A tournament by a 3-2 loss to Seamount League rival Lindbergh Saturday. Evergreen had beaten the Eagles twice during the regular season.
The 2A tournament was held in the Franklin Pierce gymnasium Saturday after the Wolverines had played at nearby Washington High School the day before. Evergreen took a 1-1 split in matches played that day.
