If the repeated term of turnover was attributed to orders of a fruity desert, it would have served the Seattle Christian girls basketball team far better than visiting SPSL 4A Kentlake forcing numerous turnovers in a 48-28 victory on Sat., Jan. 3.
Madelyn Weber's nice inside basket followed by a Carlee Ronish to Kelli Ronish goal and a running Kelli Ronish bank shot fired the Lady Warriors into 12-9 lead after one quarter.
Kylee Johnson gunned in a Kentlake 3-pointer as part of her seven-point quarter as the Falcons flew away to an 18-12 lead.
Forcing bad SCS passes and other turnovers, Kentlake also forced Seattle Christian to drain time after crossing half court, resulting in less time to run the half court offense.
Leading 25-16 at the half, KHS kept up the pressure to billow its lead into high double figures that eventually reached 20 points on three occasions which occurred even while the Lady Falcons used their entire roster.
Without a full deck of key players, the Lady Warriors were unable to draw a full house that would enable them to compete at their highest level of proficiency, although strong efforts abounded.
"Kentlake is a good team with great players," said SCS head coach Dave Jansen. "We had trouble getting five players on the court that weren't hurt."
Due to recent concussions plus two role players on holiday vacation, Seattle Christian had to do some shuffling of positions and roles. But there are some definite positives that surfaced for the Lady Warriors.
"They showed me they can battle," Jansen concluded. "Kelli did a great job taking the ball to the hoop. Madelyn was needed to do more ball handling and Ashley Schroder was solid. This game will go a long way to helping us, later."
Weber scored 12 points with several blocked shots while at times playing as an extra guard. Kelli Ronish continued aggressive development by scoring 10 points.
Johnson led Kentlake with 11 points while Aniston Denckla and Jada Leonard each scored eight points
