Seattle Christian remained unbeaten (5-0) in Nisqually 1A League softball and moved to 10-1 overall with a doubleheader sweep at Vashon Island on Mon., April 27, to stay on top of the league standings by two games with a Fri., May 1, home encounter with second place Bellevue Christian next on the schedule.
On a warm weather day, the Warriors utilized dominating mound performances along with their steady batting performances to soundly thwack the Pirates.
In the first game, Seattle Christian jumped to the front quickly and decisively by combining hits and good base running for a three-spot first inning.
Continuing their hitting prowess, the Warriors kept placing runners on the bags en route to another trio of runs in the second inning.
Although the first two innings were productive, the third inning sealed the deal. Using a plethora of hits, Seattle Christian poured it on for six-runs and a 12-0 lead that eventually created a 12-0 win in four innings.
SC pitcher Lisa Kumasaka allowed three hits while striking six batters and walking two. She also batted 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Four additional batters enjoyed strong showings. Madisen Fors was also 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI and a pair of runs scored. Taelor Willhoite batted 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Abby Hay batted 1-for-2 with an RBI while Alyssa Baucom blasted a double with an RBI in a 1-for-3 posting.
Hannah McArthur, Bailey Ormsby and Makenna McVey were each 1-for-2 for the Pirates.
In the concluding game, the action mirrored the trend of the first game in an emphatic 14-0 four-inning Seattle Christian victory.
Carlee Ronish pitched a three-hit shut out and struck out five batters, allowing only one walk.
The Warriors posted runs in every inning beginning with two runs to initiate the offense.
In the second inning, Seattle Christian kept blasting out hits to notch four additional runs before bombing away for five runs in the third inning. Vashon Island was also having some difficulties on its defensive play.
Three runs in the fourth inning combined with Ronish's scoreless fourth inning from the mound brought the game to an early halt.
Kumasaka bombed away for two hits in three at bats that included a pair of doubles, three RBI and three runs scored. Baucom was 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored. Kelli Ronish was 1-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored. Fors hit 1-2 with a run scored as was Makenzie May.
For Vashon, Ormsby had a hit in her only at bat. McArthur and McVey were each 1-for-2.
