The Normandy Park Arts Commission Presents Artwork of Giel Ahn
Reception on October 8th, 2015, 7:00 - 9:00 pm.
The Normandy Park Arts Commission is pleased to present an exhibit showcasing the colorful paintings of Giel Ahn, in Normandy Park City Hall Council Chambers during October, 2015.
Giel Ahn, an autistic young man, expresses himself beautifully through striking and powerful contemporary paintings. Bold brush strokes, carefully chosen color placement in combination with an overall interesting and evocative design, his work catches the viewer’s attention. Giel Ahn works in acrylics using a vivid color palette whether he chooses a realistic or an abstract design. Even though they are but his voice from within, Giel’s artworks speak ‘loudly’ and convey his feelings, his emotions, and his joy for life. Unspoken words become language once this young artist picks up a canvas, a brush, and paint.
Each of his paintings tells a story and allows the viewer a glimpse into his personal experiences, his desires and his zest for living life to the fullest. Being diagnosed with autism has not stopped Giel Ahn to do what he is physically and mentally able to. From swimming to hiking, to many other sportive activities, from singing to creating beautiful art, this young man sets an example for many others who don’t live with a disability. I have worked with Giel for nearly 2 years and I am amazed at his growth as an artist and as a person. It is an honor for me and I feel very fortunate to be allowed to be part of his life, of his journey, and to be present during his creative process. Actually, Mr. Ahn is the teacher for he constantly reminds me of some of the most important lessons of life: to have patience and compassion.
