Gandy sinks game winner for Western

HONOLULU, Hawai'i – Junior forward Kiana Gandy hit the game-winning basket with less than three seconds left in the game to lift the Western Washington Vikings to a 64-62 victory over Hawai'i Pacific Friday evening in the O’ahu Women’s Basketball Thanksgiving Classic.

The Vikings went 2-0 in the O’ahu Thanksgiving Classic with wins over Chaminade (61-53) and HPU to even their season record at 3-3.

Gandy (Des Moines, WA/Mount Rainier) scored a career-high 22 points in the victory, capping an excellent trip to Hawai'i in which she scored 40 points in the two games. Her game-winning basket with 2.4 seconds left on the clock capped a big second half in which the Vikings outscored the Sharks 38-29. Gandy scored 16 of her 22 points in the second half, including 11 points in the decisive fourth quarter.

“Kiana hit some big shots and our posts did a great job finding her,” said 25th-year head coach Carmen Dolfo. “We played really well together in the second half and stuck to what was working for us at both ends of the court. We were down by 13 at one point, but we stepped up and fought back.”

Gandy scored a team-high 16 points to lead Western Washington University to a Thursday's victory over Chaminade.

McPherson makes honorable mention

Kennedy graduate Jennica McPherson earned Greater Northwest Athletic Conference honorable mention as an opposite side player for the Western Washington University women's volleyball team.
McPherson is the team leader with 3.84 digs per game (8th in GNAC), 31 service aces (6th in GNAC) and 0.32 service aces per game (5th in GNAC). She was a first-team GNAC selection as a sophomore in 2013.

Cole Madison starting for Cougars

Kennedy graduate Cole Madison is starting for the Washington State University as a redshirt sophomore as the right side tackle on the offensive line.
Madison also started for the bowl-bound Cougars last year.
Madison checks in at 6-foot, 5-inches and 300 pounds.

Anderson also at Washington State

Highline graduate Erik Anderson is also with the Washington State University football team.
The redshirt freshman is listed as a backup wide receiver after making the squad as a walk on backup quarterback last year.

Penner pours in 24 points for SPU

Kennedy graduate Mitch Penner poured in a season-high 24 points for the Seattle Pacific University men's basketball team in its 71-57 victory over Cal State East Bay on Saturday.
Penner shot 11-for-14 from the free throw line in the game and also had seven rebounds and two blocked shots.
He also scored 10 in a 62-50 victory over Chico State on Friday.

McPhee knocks in nine points

Mount Rainier graduate Jordan McPhee swished in nine points for the Seattle Pacific University women's team in a 68-62 loss to Point Loma Nazarene last Tuesday.
She also hauled down four rebounds for the Falcons.

Brittany scores seven for Stanford

Mount Rainier graduate Brittany McPhee hit seven points and added two rebounds for Stanford University in its 71-65 win over Purdue on Sunday.
