High schools
Boys basketball
West Seattle earned a first round bye into this week's Class 3A state boys basketball tournament and will instead open on the second day in the state quarterfinals.
The Wildcats will play at 7:15 p.m. Thursday at the Tacoma Dome against the winner of a loser-out Wednesday game between Wilson and Capital.
Kennedy Catholic opens on the first day of the 4A tournament Wednesday, meeting Glacier Peak at 10:30 a.m. in the Tacoma Dome.
That game is loser-out, as is Seattle Lutheran's state Class 2B opener in Spokane. The Saints will play at 9 a.m. against St. George's on Wednesday.
All three tournaments run through placement games Saturday.
Girls basketball
West Seattle faces a 9 a.m. loser-out opener in the Tacoma Dome on Wednesday against Lincoln of Tacoma.
The Class 3A girls tournament will also run through placement games Saturday.
Pros
Mariners
Seattle visits Cleveland for a spring training game in Arizona at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday before coming home to Peoria, Ariz. for 12:10 p.m. action against Milwaukee on Thursday.
The Mariners then drop in on Texas at 12:10 p.m. Friday and Colorado at the same time Saturday before hosting Oakland at 12:10 p.m. Sunday and Texas at 12:10 p.m. Monday.
Sunday's and Monday's action can be seen on ROOT Sports Northwest cable television.
Thunderbirds
Seattle visits the Kamloops Blazers for 7 p.m. Canadian Hockey League action Wednesday before coming home to the Showare Center in Kent to face the Tri-City Americans at 7:35 p.m. Friday.
The Thunderbirds go to Everett to play the Silvertips at 7:05 p.m. Saturday before entertaining Spokane at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday.
Stars
Tacoma will be in San Diego taking on the Sockers in 6:05 p.m. men's professional indoor soccer action Saturday.
Sounders
Seattle's defending Major League Soccer champions open with a 5:30 p.m. outdoor match at the home of the Houston Dynamo on Saturday.
Colleges
Husky men
The University of Washington men's basketball team visits UCLA for an 8 p.m. game Wednesday before dropping in on USC at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
Saturday's action can be seen on the Pac-12 network.
Husky women
Washington will be involved in the Pac-12 tournament at Seattle's Key Arena, which runs all day Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Cougar men
Washington State University visits USC at 7 p.m. Wednesday and UCLA at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
Wednesday's game can be seen on the Pac-12 network and Saturday's on ESPNU.
Cougar women
Washington State University will also be playing in the Pac-12 women's tournament in Seattle that runs Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Redhawks men
Seattle University visits Utah Valley for a 6 p.m. game Saturday.
Redhawks women
Seattle will entertain Utah Valley for a 4 p.m. contest Saturday.
Falcons men
Seattle Pacific University is involved in the GNAC tournament that runs Thursday through Saturday at St. Martin's University in Lacey.
Falcons women
The GNAC women's tournament involving Seattle Pacific University is also being play Thursday through Saturday at St. Martin's University in Lacey.
