Mary’s Place has found a space suitable for a forever home—right in Burien at the former Lakeside Milam Recovery Center.
Before moving forward on purchasing the property, however, the nonprofit is asking for advice from the community.
Mary’s Place is hosting a meeting, open to public, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 14 in the Multipurpose Room at the Burien Library, 400 SW 152nd St.
“Come get to know us and we can answer any questions,” spokeswoman Linda Mitchell said.
Area residents are invited to learn more about Mary’s Place and ask questions about the potential new shelter. Food will be served during the event.
“When we move into a new neighborhood, we always host a meeting,” Mitchell said. “People want to know what’s happening. People have fears and concerns, and we’re able to address those.”
She explained that the nonprofit has been searching for a location in South King County, where there is a great need for its services.
Mitchell said that one of the committees at Mary’s Place has been searching for possible buildings in the area where they can further the outreach mission and stumbled on this opportunity in Burien.
“It’s the most perfect building you could ever imagine,” she said. “It has rooms, common areas, a kitchen, parking and an outdoor play space. It’s well-maintained and basically move-in ready.”
The former Lakeside Milam Recovery Center treated individuals with drug and alcohol abuse issues. The 23,000 sq. ft. site is located at 12845 Ambaum Blvd.
