press release:
The Kenney assisted living has recently experienced an unusual but welcome trend. Six couples have moved in over the last six months which is the highest amount of incoming couples The Kenney has seen since the Lincoln Vista assisted living building opened in 2003. That means within the 46-apartment building, couples now make up thirteen percent of the residents!
“I like everything about The Kenney!” says resident Charlotte Wisdorf, who moved in with her husband Raymond in May. “I like the friendliness – all the employees are so engaging - the management, the nurses, the therapists, the kitchen staff, and the housekeeping and maintenance staff.”
The Kenney’s assisted living provides quality care for the residents that includes help with housekeeping, meals, personal laundry, linens and towels and other services as-needed. This allows residents to partake in the abundance of daily activities – gardening, baking, trips to the YMCA and the Junction, the monthly bookmobile and many more.
“There are many activities and there’s really something for everyone,” says Loretta Knight, who moved in with her husband Rudy this spring. “Some of us like to participate in as many activities as we can, while others like to read and just visit with neighbors – it’s great that there’s so much to pick and choose from.”
Couples that move into The Kenney’s assisted living experience the benefit of receiving help while still maintaining independence with their spouse.
“It works out well because it’s organized for us – food, laundry and bathing assistance are all provided,” says Bob Mollerus, who moved in with his wife Thea in 2010. “Having help with all of these things make life much easier. The staff is very friendly, helpful and I have absolutely no complaints!”
Having the help they need from staff and the company of other residents, couples at The Kenney experience peace-of-mind and develop great friendships.
“Everything is provided and it’s wonderful not to have to worry about housework or cleaning,” says Mrs. Knight. “The friendliness of other residents as well as the staff is just so supportive.”
Three meals are provided to The Kenney’s assisted living residents, and the quality of the food is quite important.
When asked about the food, Mrs. Wisdorf exclaimed, “It’s great! The food is wonderful, and the kitchen staff does an exceptional job.”
“The food is good, and there’s a nice variety,” says Mr. Mollerus. “Generally speaking, the food and food service are really good.”
Assisted living at The Kenney is a great option for couples. With the care giving and daily chores taken care of by Kenney professionals, the couples are able to bring the focus back to their relationship and life fulfilling activities.
The Kenney is West Seattle’s only continuing care retirement community. In 1909 The Kenney opened its doors for senior housing and now offers independent living, assisted living and skilled nursing on campus. Visit www.thekenney.org or call 206-937-2800 for more information.
