Fighting crime with kindness
A female was taking a shower in her parent’s home on the 1500 block of S.W. Brandon St when she heard a loud bang around 4 p.m. on Oct. 28. Unsure of the sound, she continued showering but then heard two unfamiliar voices in the master bedroom (she was in the master bath shower). She heard one person ask, “Should we take the scanner or not?” and stepped out to investigate. She saw a male in his 20s sifting through her parent’s dresser and said, “Hi.” The suspect said, “Hi” back, turned and sprinted out of the house, his co-suspect clipping at his heels. The loud bang was one of the suspects kicking in the front door, resulting in $200 in damages.
Cinderblock through the window from a disgruntled ex-employee?
A California Ave S.W. business was broken into sometime overnight between Oct. 26 and 27. The entry tool of choice was a cinder block thrown through a window and the owner told police they suspect an accountant who was recently fired. The victim said the accountant may have broken in (or had someone break in for her) in hopes of obtaining cash she felt the company owed her. The victim said the former employee was “tweaking” on drugs when she was fired earlier in the month. Extensive fingerprint analysis was done at the scene and the prints were sent to the crime lab. A list of stolen items was not available from the report.
Westwood Village purse snatch
A woman was walking back to her car with a friend after shopping at a pet store in Westwood Village around noon on Oct. 27. As they walked a vehicle started driving slowly behind, which she found odd. At their vehicle the suspect stopped his black Honda Civic hatchback directly behind, blocking them in. The white male suspect, around 20 years old, jumped out of his car, ran up to the woman and ripped her purse from her arm. A nearby witness saw the crime and grabbed the suspect’s window frame in an attempt to stop him, but the suspect accelerated full force, peeling out his tires as he fled the scene. The responding officer matched the suspect and vehicle with a man wanted by the King County Sheriff’s Office for similar crimes.
Safety-conscious thief?
Shortly after 11 p.m. on Oct. 27 a woman noticed a light on in her garage. Investigating, she discovered a male inside her vehicle tinkering with the steering wheel. When discovered, the suspect told the woman he would pay for the damages and walked away. After police arrived the victim said her son knew the suspect. It appeared he was trying to steal the airbag.
