Taking advantage of the elderly? Not this time
The night of Nov. 15 an elderly gentleman living in a 35th Ave. S.W. assisted living apartment woke up around 2 a.m. to use the bathroom. Just then his locked front door opened and a female staff member walked in, claiming she was there to check on a light. He told the woman there were not any issues he was aware of, let her carry on with her business and took care of his own. She was gone by the time he went back to bed. The man told police he always keeps his wallet and cash in the front pocket of his pants and the next morning, while enjoying breakfast, he noticed his wallet was short $600. Based on the victim’s description, the building owner knew exactly which staff member it was and said, as a housekeeper, she had no business entering a tenant’s room without permission. Police planned to stop by during her next scheduled shift.
Improper use of a baseball bat
A home on the 8400 block of 7th Ave S.W. was described to police as “occupied by several tenants” with people coming and going at any and all hours. On Nov. 15 around 4 a.m. a man holding an aluminum baseball bat knocked on the door and asked if (redacted) was around. One of the many tenants suggested a room where (redacted) may have been. The aggressor went to the room with several people inside and, as told from someone outside the room, “clinking sounds” were heard followed by the plea, “Stop hitting me!” The suspect left without saying a word and hopped into a white Mustang that tore away on S.W. Cloverdale. Shortly afterwards the victim, who didn’t live there, left on foot apparently unscathed by the beating, according to a witness. Neither the victim nor Mustang were located by police in an area check.
Teens fail at crime
The witness to an attempted burglary stepped out onto his deck around 2:45 p.m. on Nov. 13 and had a bird’s eye view of three hoodie-clad teens trying their best to commit a property crime on the 5600 block of 31st Ave S.W. One teen leapt at the front door several times trying to break it down. The door won and the juveniles walked away. The witness called police but the suspects were gone by the time they arrived.
Nothing is safe
Two vacant and empty West Seattle homes owned by banks, likely the spoils of foreclosure, were discovered by caretakers to have been gutted of their plumbing and piping in the last week.
