LETTER: Thanks from SeaTac
Mon, 01/16/2012
“I just want to say thank you to every one in my community that helped my children get gifts for Christmas. There was no way for me to get my kids gifts this year. You have no idea how happy they are going to be. Every one helping out had large smiles and sweet words to say. You don’t find that too often when you’re getting help, but I feel great about what all you have done for my family this year.”
The above grateful comment was written by a Holiday of Hope shopper who took a moment to stop by the crowded Thank You Card Bar where recipients packed in shoulder-to-shoulder and struggled with language and spelling to find the right words to express their delight and gratitude.
For the third year running, Angle Lake Family Resource Center collaborated with the community to host the Holiday of Hope toy shop in December. This year the event was held at the Angle Lake Family Resource Center (ALFRC).
The ALFRC, is a program of Lutheran Community Services Northwest. The center works in partnership with diverse communities, connecting families to information, education, resources, and support to promote the health and well being of children and families and to foster a sense of community.
The Holiday of Hope program rallied businesses, organizations and community members to provide toys for needy children. There were so many people who got into the act; donating money, bringing toys by the car load or spending time to create home made items like fleece hats and dolls with clothes.
The program served 116 families with just under 450 children. The main contributors to Holiday of Hope were the Windermere Foundation and realtors, Rotary Club of SeaTac, World Vision, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, city of SeaTac, and over 75 private donors. Their support is valued at around $10,000 in gifts and gift cards.
Angle Lake Family Resource Center and the above recipient thanks all in the community who helped make this happen through personal contributions and volunteer time. We live in a great place, don’t we!
