Kitty escapes but Prudential Agents help to recover him

Dear Editor,
On Wednesday of this week when I came to work I noticed a woman in the parking garage carrying a pet carrier, shaking a bag of treats. A couple of people from my office, Prudential Northwest Realty, were also looking around between and under the cars. As it turns out, a woman was on her way to the veterinarian’s office at Jefferson Square when her heavy cat fell out of the bottom of the cardboard carrier and skittered under a car. Several people helped the cat’s owner, calling and looking for hours. The owner of the cat had recently lost her husband, and did not want to have to tell her three children, ages 11, 13, and 15, that their cat was lost or missing. She stayed looking, while the Prudential folks had to go back to work. Jamie Hanley, the office administrator who had spent quite a long time helping to search, sent out an email to all the agents, urging them to check under their cars before getting in and starting up, in case the cat was under there.
Later in the afternoon, agent Paul Poirier was on the telephone with a client, and out the window of his office he saw a cat come out of the parking garage onto 42nd Ave SW and, terrified, bolt across the street. He said to someone else in the office – “Isn’t that the cat that’s been missing all day?” Jamie Hanley, Paul Poirier and Michael Mallagh all went across the street right away and found the cat, wedged in the door of a business there and just watched him. Jamie called the owner, who was just a block away still searching. The owner came right over, with her three children who were out of school by then, and the kids were able to secure the cat and take him home. Poor Sawyer had never been outside before so it was quite an adventure for him.
