The West Seattle Thritway store is making changes to get ready for the sale of liquor in grocery stores, legal as of June 1. They've moved out their center 'coffin' freezer cases and replaced them with the housewares section, which has been in the back northeast corner of the store.
West Seattle Thriftway is making some changes to get ready for the sale of liquor, starting June 1 but they are doing it in way to enhance the beauty of the store.
The center freezer cases, known as "coffins" were taken out of the store and that area has had special, retro style lighting fixtures added and the floor there chemically treated with a stain and glaze that is both good looking and durable.
Michelle Grasso of Thriftway said, "Our housewares is going in that spot." The liquor will go in the back of the store where Housewares used to be.
Large warehouse style stores and grocery stores with 10,000 square feet or more will be able to sell liquor as a result of the vote that passed in November and state-run liquor stores officially close on May 31.
