Monday, April 23, 2012:
Baseball Inglemoor
Beavers baseball hosted Inglemoor on Monday afternoon at Whitman Baseball fields. The game was scoreless until the sixth inning when Ballard batted in four runs. Inglemoor did get five hits off Ballard pitcher Caleb Jaeger but was unable to score, and the game ended in the first half of the seventh inning.
Jaeger pitched all seven innings, striking out two and giving away no walks.
Softball:
The Lady Beavers hosted Redmond on Monday afternoon at the Lower Woodland Park fields. It was a scoreless game up until the second half of the fourth inning when Ballard batted in two runners. Ballard had a few more hits but the game finished without any more runs. Ballard won 2 to 0. Pitcher Andrea Jewett was 2 for 3 at bat with a double. And Kirsten Aaakervik scored one RBI. Jewett pitched for seven innings, allowing one hit and one walk, and striking out 11 batters.
Tuesday, April 24, 2012:
Soccer:
The Ballard boys soccer team played on the road against Issaquah on Tuesday evening. It was a high scoring game and a tough night for the Ballard goalie. Issaquah's Alex Shane netted the first goal in the 13th minute and scored twice more before the end of the first half. Ballard's Sam Zisette was awarded a penalty, bringing the score to 3 to 1 at half time. Issaquah scored four more times in the second half while the Beavers struggled to maintain ball possession. Ballard lost 7 to 1.
Boys LAX:
The Ballard boys lacrosse team hosted Kennedy High School on Tuesday afternoon, and the Beavers struggled to keep up with the Lancers.
After scoring three goals in the first quarter, Kennedy matched Ballard goal-for-goal in the second to take a 4 - 2 lead into the half.
In the third, the Lancers were quick to score and Ballard was trailing 10 - 3 going into the final quarter.
In the fourth, Ballard came fighting back with five goals, but in the end couldn’t overcome the strong Kennedy start.
Ballard's Jackson Bowen had three goals and Jake Losi had two. Goalie Alex James made 8 saves.
Girls LAX:
The Lady beavers suffered a 17 to 6 loss against Seattle Prep on Tuesday evening in a Comcast televised game.
Seattle Prep's Mary Sessler netted the game's first goal just 11 seconds into play, and she continued to score five more goals.
By the end of the first half, the Beavers were trailing 11 to 4 in the first, and the second half saw six more goals against Ballard goalie Hannah Breton.
Ballard lost 17 to 6.
Ballard's Sophie Mora had four goals and one assist. Hannah Breton made six saves.
Ballard (4-5-0) next faces Kennedy (4-4-0), Friday, April 27 in a 5:30 p.m. start at Ballard High School.
Wednesday, April 25, 2012:
Baseball:
Ballard hosted Roosevelt at the Whitman Baseball field in Wednesday afternoon for a game that saw many hits for both teams.
The game was scoreless until the third inning when Roosevelt batted in five runs. Ballard needed several innings to catch up to Roosevelt and finally took the win in the last inning, surpassing Roosevelt by only one run. Ballard won 7 to 6.
Ballard had 10 hits. Rory Graf-Brennen was 3 for 3 at bat, Ryan Kangas was 3 out of 4, and Ben Welch went 2 out of 5 with 3 RBI.
Softball:
The Ballard softball team suffered a tough loss on Wednesday afternoon against Newport. Ballard pitcher Andrea Jewett and the Beavers defense struggled against the strong Newport line-up, allowing 14 hits and 10 runs.
Despite getting seven hits off Newport pitcher Kat Wood, the Beavers were unable to get any runs across the plate. Ballard lost 10 to 0.
