It was a well combined track and field meet.
Highline was facing the combined Evergreen/Tyee squad for the all-Highline School District title, with the Pirates being a Class 3A team and Evergreen and Tyee both 2A in a combined Seamount League.
And for this meet, four boys ran with one girl in a combined 3,200-meter run.
Grace Stephans of Highline found herself running the girls portion by herself, and she thus won that event with her time of 13 minutes, 9.58 seconds.
But for the whole race she was either just ahead, equal to or just behind one of the boys runners -- Chinh Nguyen of Evergreen. She was not alone until Nguyen turned on his after burners down the home stretch and finished in 13:05.05.
Derek Ingraham of Tyee won the race in 10:31.25, followed by Highline's Josh Nord (11:08.63) and Zach Todd (11::29.86).
Highline's depth helped it to carry the day, outscoring Tyee, 114-10, and Evergreen, 96-38, on the boys side as Evergreen topped Tyee, 89-10. Highline beat the Tyee girls, 113-16, and downed Evergreen, 106-27. Evergreen outscored Tyee, 61-23.
Colleen Pacholski of Highline won the girls 100-meter dash in 13:57 and teammate Whitney Diggs took the 200 in 26.58 with Tracey Stolz capturing the 400 in 1:04.26. Thais Pedro of the Pirates won the 800 in 2:25.07 and the 1,600 in 5:50.67.
Michelle Stolz won the 100-meter hurdles in 15.26 and Highline teammate Breana Brookbank took the 300 hurdles in 50.94.
Highline swept the relay events, taking the 400 in 56.32, the 800 in 1:58.33 and the 1,600 in 4:45.46. LeAnn Hatling reached a height of 4 feet, 4 inches to win the high jump for Highline and Sophia Cassam took the pole vault at 7-6. Brookbank took the long jump at 14-4 and Judy Lemke won the triple jump at 28-9.
Jamila Culcleasure of Highline won the shot put at 34-5.25 and the discus at 102-11.
Evergreen's Mailelei Faletogo won the javelin at 66-4.
On the boys side, Montae Rainwater of Highline won the 100 in 11.88 and Keoni Simmons of Evergreen took the 200 in 24.28. Lane Hatling of Highline won the 400 in 58.09 and Samuel Gustafsson of Highline took the 800 in 2:09.06. Josh Nord won the 1,600 for Highline in 4:55.25 with Michael Devos winning the 110 hurdles in 19.15 and Pedro Diaz of Evergreen the 300 hurdles in 45.29.
