4:29 p.m., September 25. NW Leary Way and 15th Ave NW

A man called police on the afternoon of September 25 after he was attacked at an intersection in Ballard. The victim said that he was riding his bike but had stopped, and a man walked up to him and hit him in the face with a stick. The victim suffered a laceration to his face, and one of his teeth was knocked out, causing heavy bleeding. The victim and witnesses followed the suspect until police arrived at the scene.

Police arrested the suspect and read him his rights, and he said that he wanted to tell his side of the story. He changed his account several times but did admit to the assault. The suspect said that he punched the victim in the face after the victim stole the food he had gotten from a food bank and tried to talk to the suspect’s girlfriend. The suspect told a different officer that he attacked the victim because he interrupted a birthday party.

The stick used in the attack was not located. The victim was taken to the hospital. The suspect was booked into King County Jail on assault charges.

2:27 a.m., September 23. 15th block of NW 63rd St

A woman called police after she caught three people trying to break into her home in the middle of the night. The victim said that she was woken up by a noise, and then her dog started barking. She went downstairs and saw three people trying to pry her back door open. The victim yelled at the suspects and they ran away. She said they were in their 20s or 30s and looked scruffy. The suspects did not cause any damage and were not found in the area.

8:58 p.m., September 21. 92nd block of 3rd Ave NW

Police responded to a violent robbery on the night of September 21. The victim said he was walking his dog when he was approached by three males. One of them declared, “We own the neighborhood. This street is ours.” One of the suspects then punched the victim in the jaw. The victim punched the suspect in the face in response, at which point the other two suspects grabbed the victim and began pulling at his pants pockets. The victim believed that one of the suspects was trying to take his wallet, but he was able to keep it. He continued to fight back until the suspects ran away. One of them called threats as he fled.

The victim said that he recognized the suspects as teenagers who lived in the neighborhood. He was not entirely sure of which house they lived in. The victim was heavily intoxicated and difficult to interview. He had only a small laceration on his chin and declined medical attention.
