Did you mean anarchist state?
It was just before 6 p.m. on Oct. 22 when an employee at a grocery store on the 4200 block of S.W. Morgan St. was taking a break and eating some food. He watched two young males (they looked to be under 21) walking towards the front of the store with a frozen food item and a bottle of liquor. The employee got up and followed the juveniles as they bypassed the register and walked out the door. He confronted them in the parking lot and told them the items needed to be returned. The suspect with the food and booze in hand replied, “… this is a Communist State and I can take whatever I want!” The employee grabbed the bottle of alcohol and the second suspect punched him in the face. In the ensuing melee, the liquor dropped and shattered and the frozen food box was ripped open, scattering frozen bits about. The suspects fled north on California Ave S.W. and the employee said he was fine after the punch. A witness told police he/she recognized one of the suspects as a former student in the area and gave them a name.
Suspicious ransacking
Sometime during the daylight hours on Oct. 17, an unknown suspect broke into an apartment on the 5000 block of Delridge Way S.W. and ransacked a room, but stole nothing. When a roommate arrived home he called police, and the investigation turned up a red substance on the doorknob and door jam leading into the room, believed to be someone’s blood (a sample was taken as evidence). The victims also found it strange that their live-in German Shepherd, described as “very active,” was found hiding in the laundry room. It was behavior they had never seen before. The dog checked clear for any injuries and the victims told police they wanted to file a report because they suspect a disgruntled ex-employee.
Neighbor to the rescue
On Oct. 16, between 1 and 2 p.m. on the 5200 block of Erskine Way S.W., a woman saw a peculiar person standing outside a residence for sale across the street. The female with long blond hair, a black blazer and knee high black leather boots, described as pretty but with crooked teeth, was standing near the vacant home driveway looking at a flyer. The neighbor decided to talk with the female to find out her story when she suddenly saw a male come out of the backyard through a gate. She asked the suspect what he was doing in her neighbor’s backyard and he disputed the scene she had just plainly saw, stating he had not come from there at all. The unidentified male and female got into their green Honda and sped away. It appeared the suspect broke out a garage window and tried to steal a weed wacker and fire extinguisher, but the neighbor’s inquiry with his lookout likely stopped the theft mid-stream. Southwest Precinct Crime Prevention Coordinator Mark Solomon often says one of the best crime prevention techniques in our neighborhoods it to simply engage people we don’t recognize in conversation (even a “Hello"). If they are there for illegal reasons, they will often times quickly move on.
Family dog stolen
On Oct. 17 someone broke into a 2200 S.W. Holden St. apartment and stole, in addition to computers, a TV and wedding ring worhth $2000, the family’s brown and white Lhasa Apso. The family stated their dog had run away before, but always came back soon and had not in this case.
