Criminal condolences
On Feb. 26 a woman returned to her 34th Ave. S.W. home after attending her mother’s memorial service. She went to the backyard to place a flower arrangement from the funeral on the patio when she saw another woman. The victim asked the trespasser what she was doing, to which she replied, “I’m looking for my dog Bailey.” Before hurriedly leaving the home, the suspect told the victim “Sorry about the loss of your mother.” As the victim noticed a cut in one of her window screens, she realized she had not told the mystery woman about her mother’s death, but had posted the memorial date and time on the Internet.

Rottweiler tricked
On the morning of Feb. 22 someone broke into a family’s 35th Ave. S.W. home and stole over $1,400 in cash and the family Rottweiler’s collar and tags. The victims told police the “very large black and brown” dog would not have likely let a stranger into the home, let alone let him or her close enough to remove his collar. The parents suspected their daughter’s ex-boyfriend in the burglary, noting he was friendly with the big dog. Police did a background check on the ex-boyfriend, revealing a first degree burglary conviction in 2011 and a 21 month sentence to state prison. However, a call to prison revealed the potential suspect was no longer incarcerated.

Urine trouble
Seattle Police and King County Metro officers worked together to apprehend and arrest a male suspected of theft, lewd activity and assault near a California Ave. S.W. bus stop on Feb. 21. It all started when a man sitting at a bus shelter witnessed the suspect urinating nearby, in the open. The man asked the suspect to use a restroom in the future, to which the suspect reportedly walked over and hit the man in the head. The two quarreled until King County fare enforcement officers arrived and split it up. The victim then realized his phone was missing. When police arrived they found the iPhone, with its screen smashed, in the suspect’s pocket. He was given a ride to jail, where they have restrooms readily available.

A tad late
Burglars broke into a 24th Ave. S.W. home on Feb. 21, only to find it vacant and mostly barren of goods to steal. The victim, who checks on the house periodically, told police his brother was growing marijuana inside the home but had stopped the operation recently.
