According to Eater.com, another brewery is coming Ballard's way: Stoup Brewing. Coming this summer, the brewery will have 15 barrels and owners Robyn Schumacher and Brad Benson want it to have an educational aspect, such as beer tastings or beer dinners (!?!?).
Apparently, the two both have a background in science, which should make the new brewery delightfully nerdy. Benson has 20-years-worth of experience as an environmental chemist and is a former East Coast brewer. His wife, Laura Zahaba, does marketing for Epicurean Wines, and will be using her skills for Stoup.
Here's what Benson writes in his first blog post for the new brewery:
"After almost a year and 1/2 of planning and figuring out how to pay for our dream, it looks like we are going to make this brewery a reality. Last Friday at 4:30 pm we got word that the final piece of our funding was a go. Ten minutes after that I had given notice to the company I had started working at over twenty years ago. Five minutes after that, we had scheduled a signing of the lease for the property that we have been trying not to lose for the past three months."
Is Ballard going to have too many breweries? We took a look at that already, and with the crowds we casually see at every brewery no matter what (Populuxe actually ran out of beer the other weekend), our guess is probably not.
We'll give an update on location, opening date and other details later on.
