Truck broken into, mess made, but nothing stolen
June 14, 7:30 a.m., 8700 Block of Greenwood Ave -- A victim woke up in the morning to find out his truck inside a parking garage was broken into. The passenger side wing window was shattered and the contents of the glove compartment were emptied onto the floorboard.
While the complex has a video camera, the manager was not in yet to view it by the time the responding police officer left. The victim said nothing seemed to be missing and the police officer could not find any latent fingerprints. An area check for the suspect turned up negative.
Between a rock and an apathetic employee, a shattered window
June 15, 5:15 a.m., 1400 Block of NW 56th St -- A business on the 1400 block of NW 56th St had its full-length glass door shattered. An employee told the responding police officer that an unidentified customer mentioned the broken glass around 2 a.m. but the employee did not think to call police to report it since no alarms sounded.
The police officer cleared the building of any person or animal but found no signs of damage or obvious signs of theft. A football-sized rock was seen about 20 feet from the broken glass door. The police officer observed no cameras inside the business.
'You can't f---in' stop me! I know the rules.'
June 15, 11:58 p.m., 8700 Block of Greenwood Ave N -- A police officer responded to a call of a shoplift-turned-robbery of alcohol at a grocery store.
The victim was watching the surveillance camera when he observed the suspect remove three bottles of alcohol from store shelves and hide them in his coat. The suspect then went on to walk past the registers without paying while attempting to conceal the obvious large bulge beneath his jacket.
The victim confronted the suspect at the front doors, telling him to give the bottles back. But the suspect apparently was not having it. "You can't fuckin' stop me! I know the rules," he responded, perhaps acknowledging that, yes, it's illegal to steal alcohol.
The victim attempted to reach out to stop the suspect but was met with a punch in the side of the face. During the scuffle, the suspect dropped two bottles of E&J VSOP Brandy ($13.99) but was still able to take the last bottle, likely some sort of gin or vodka. The victim had no visible injuries, except that his face hurt where he was punched. (Understandable.)
The police officer reviewed store surveillance and found out that the supect was black, male, 18-20 years old, wearing a black or blue North Face jacket and blue jeans with a design down the leg.
Nothing stolen, but who cut the screen?
June 16, 10:23 p.m., 1150 block of 3rd Ave NW -- An elderly woman was the victim of an attempted burglary last week, but it appeared the suspect did not actually gain entry.
Part of the screen on a window was cut off and several items were knocked off the window sill. A detailed search of the home revealed that likely nothing was stolen.
Visiting family members were away from the house and did not set the alarm. They were sure that the screen was damaged while they were away. A small knife was left on the front step with its blade open, obviously moved by someone, and a long, approximately three-foot orange weed cutter was found outside the home which belonged to no one present.
Responding officers gave the family members a business card and case number. There are no suspects at this time.
