Information from Seattle Parks

Seattle Parks and Recreation will host a public meeting on Monday, October 21, 2013 to discuss the proposed installation of a sculpture at Seacrest Park. The meeting is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.at Marination Mai Kai, 1660 Harbor Ave. SW. The community is encouraged to attend and learn about the project. Seattle Park’s staff will be on site to answer questions and discuss next steps for the project.

The new sculpture, Luna Girls, created by local Seattle artist, Lezlie Jane is recommended to be installed at Seacrest Park at 1660 Harbor Ave SW. The sculpture will not interfere with existing park use.

The Luna Girls sculpture uses heavy steel to outline the form of three women in 1920s beach attire. The outline format of the sculpture does not obstruct the picturesque views of Elliott Bay and downtown Seattle.

Luna Girls celebrates the history of Luna Park, an elaborate 12-acre amusement park built at Alki in 1907. The amusement park closed in 1913 but its fresh-water and saltwater swimming pools operated until 1931.

Luna Girls was funded by private donations from community members.
