The Ballard Bartell's (22nd Ave NW) will be redeveloped into a mixed-use building, according to Mark Craig, President of Henbart, LLC, the company that owns the property.
“In the past seven years we have watched the neighborhood transform with a new park, library, retail and residential development and we are exploring how our site can add to this vitality and vibrancy," Craig said. "Currently, we are looking at a mixed-use building with residential, commercial and office space.”
According to city documents, the plans state that they are planning to have 78 apartments, four townhouses, 20,000 sq. ft. of office space and 131 underground parking spots. Construction is expected to begin in 2015.
A new Bartell's is opening up on the ground floor of the new Urbana Apartments on the corner of Market and 15th. However, this opening does not necessarily mean the 22nd Bartell's will close, and Henbart, LLC would not confirm whether the Bartell's would stay open in the development or not. They said they are still getting a sense of what the community wants.
A call and an email to Bartell's spokeperson went unanswered.
At the Ballard District Council this week, a paper was passed around asking community members what they would like to see in the new mixed-use space on 22nd.
