Lance McIntosh is now the newest member of the Burien Parks and Recreation Advisory Board after being appointed by the Burien City Council at their meeting on December 2nd. The Burien Parks and Recreation Board is a seven member committee established to provide guidance and direction to the Burien City Council on the City’s future parks and recreation programs and priorities. Each member of the advisory board was appointed by the City Council to fulfill four year terms. In 2012 the City Council enacted a new policy that established term limits for their advisory boards which limited advisors to two consecutive four year terms. Appointed to a previously vacated seat, McIntosh will hold his position on the board for his first term through March of 2015.

Lance McIntosh is a Burien native whose family has lived in the region since 1901 when his great-great uncle, William Sprague, first broke ground on a home on the western coast of Burien on the edge of the land that makes up Eagle Landing Park now. That home was recently purchased by Highline native John White and is now known as Forestledge. Lance’s dad was born and raised in Burien and his mother lived her since her family made the move from Kansas when she was only 13. According to McIntosh, "I was born at Highline Hospital in 1959, and lived here until a year after graduating from Highline High School in 1978. The exception being three separate years when Dad was transferred for work (Boeing), but we always moved back to Seahurst. I spent most of my childhood in the woods and on the beaches, still my favorite places to be.”

“I have a special fondness for Seahurst, having grown up in and around it. I also recognize the importance of natural and open spaces for a community, " he said. The Parks and Recreation Board meets the second Wednesday of each month from 7pm to 9pm at the Burien Community Center at 14700 6th Avenue Southwest.
