KENT - No. 4 state ranked 4A Richland located its sites early and regularly to bomb away Mount Rainier of Des Moines 95-62 in a boys basketball match up on Mon., Jan. 20, at the 2014 King Showcase presented by Ram Restaurant & Brewery and held at the ShoWare Center.
First quarter action was a clear and present warning of things to come with the Bomber defense exploiting the Ram ball handlers while also running rampant on offense en route to a 23-8 lead after one quarter.
This pattern repeated itself many times as Richland (15 - 0) overwhelmed its undermanned opponent to build a 37 point lead at one point before closing the curtain on the one-sided presentation that included 12-of-27 shooting from beyond the 3-point.
Jamil Wilson-Jones was a solid soldier for the 1-14 Rams, scoring a game-high 30 points along with a dozen rebounds. Andrew Lenaburg contributed 19 Mount Rainier points.
Jacob DeVries and Payton Radliff poured in 21 points apiece while Steven Beo (16) and Drew McCullough (10) were also in double figures for the Bombers. Six-foot, seven-inch Nathan Steufert scored 9 points and hauled away 17 rebounds with 5 assists for Richland which forced 22 Ram turnovers while in the process of shooting 50.7 per cent from the field.
