On April 1 officers were called to the 3200 block of S.W. Avalon WY just after midnight on a report of a large fight in the middle of the street. When the officers arrived they contacted the victims, a male and a female, who were waiting for them on the curb.
The victims told officers that they were walking home from 7-11 after buying a six pack of beer and were almost hit by a car when they tried to cross the street midblock. One of the victims yelled at the vehicle, a red sedan, at which point the vehicle stopped in the middle of the street. The two suspects, a white male and female both in their mid 20’s, got out of the vehicle and began yelling at the victims. The male victim picked out a beer bottle and held it over his head to ward off the suspects.
At this point the female suspect and female victim began pushing and fighting with each other. As soon as the male victim stepped in to try and break it up the male suspect hit him in the side of the head and knocked him on the ground where he began raining blows on the victim. When the female victim went to break up the males the female suspect picked up one of the beer bottles and bashed her in the head with it. Once the male victim threatened to call police the suspects got back in their car and drove off.
When police arrived they found the victims waiting on the curb bruised, scratched and in possession of the male suspect’s mobile phone that he dropped during the assaults. When police opened the phone they found the suspect’s Facebook page open which provided them with loads of information such as the female suspect’s identity (at the time their status was “in a relationship”) as well as pictures of both suspects. The victims were treated for their injuries at the scene and then given a case number to follow up with. The cell phone was taken into evidence.
Group Effort
On Mar.31 on 46 Ave. S.W. /S.W. Alaska St. a man was robbed of his backpack while walking home from a bus stop. The victim, an employee at Amazon, got off of the bus at the junction on California Ave. S.W. and S.W. Alaska St. and was walking home when he noticed a group of about 10 teenage boys following him. The group, predominately black but with a few white members, began following the victim from the stop at the junction as he walked home. The group of teens began calling to the victim and verbally harassing him in an attempt to illicit a reaction.
Eventually the group descended on the victim and threw him to ground where a few suspects began kicking and punching him while he was down. When the victim got to his feet and attempted to defend himself the entire group came at him and managed to wrestle his backpack off of him and ran away. The backpack contained the victim’s wallet, iPad, and Amazon ID.
The victim suffered bruising and scratches to the face but declined medical attention. Unfortunately the victim was unable to get a good look at any of the suspects and informed police that he was unsure if he would later be able to identify any suspects in the event of an arrest.
