SEATAC MUNICIPAL COURT ANNOUNCES LINEUP OF EVENTS FOR 2014 LAW WEEK, APRIL 28-MAY 2

Highline Community College, “Rock the Vote” and SeaTac Municipal Court partner for special events
City of SeaTac, Wash. (April 15, 2014) – The SeaTac Municipal Court is pleased to announce the event lineup for the 2014 SeaTac Municipal Court Law Week, happening April 28-May 2. In partnership with “Rock the Vote” and Highline Community College, this year’s festivities will present a series of events following the American Bar Association theme “American Democracy and the Rule of Law: Why Every Vote Matters.”
“We were delighted to receive recognition from the American Bar Association for our event lineup last year, and this year’s program is even more exciting,” said Judge Elizabeth M. Cordi-Bejarano, of SeaTac Municipal Court. “We want to thank our fellow city officials, King County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg, Senator Patty Murray’s Office, Former Seattle Mayor Norm Rice, and all of the other participants for their tremendous commitment to this effort.”
“Law Week is a unique occasion every year when we can celebrate our legal system, encourage citizens to register to vote and to appreciate the liberties our country grants us, “said City of SeaTac Mayor Mia Gregerson. “We are thrilled to partner with Highline Community College to make these important programs available to the public.”
The 2014 Law Week lineup of events includes the following:

Student Mock Election - Monday, April 28
Highline Community College will host a Rock the Vote’s Student Democracy Class and Mock Election, moderated by Judge E. M. Bejarano and instructor Adrian Sinkler and Che Dawson. The class will be held from 11am to 12pm, at Highline Community College, 2400 S. 240th St., Des Moines, Building 7.

Free Movie Screening, “Swing Vote,” - Tuesday April 29 and Wednesday April 30
There will be two free screenings of the 2008 film “Swing Vote,” starring Kevin Costner, hosted by Judge E. M. Bejarano. The film follows a remarkable turn-of-events when the result of the presidential election comes down to one man’s vote. The movie is rated PG-13 and will be shown on Tuesday, April 29 at 5:30 p.m. at SeaTac City Hall, Council Chambers, as well as on Wednesday, April 30 at 11am, at Highline Community College, Building 8.

Non-Partisan Voter Registration Rally - Thursday, May 1
In an effort to encourage citizens to register to vote and learn about the importance of participating in the voting process, join elected officials, comedians and musical celebrities for a rally at Highline Community College, Building 8, Student Union Building from 2-5 pm. Rally includes remarks by 33rd Legislative District Representative and SeaTac Mayor Mia Gregerson and City of Des Moines Mayor Dave Kaplan, among others. Local comedians Ty Barnett (HBO’s “Bad Boys of Comedy”), John Keister (“Almost Live” and “The 206”) and recording artist Wanz (of Macklemore’s “Thrift Shop”) will perform.

Student Mock Election - Friday, May 2
The City of SeaTac will host a Rock the Vote’s Student Democracy Class and Mock Election, moderated by Judge E. M. Bejarano. The class will be held from 9am to 12pm, at SeaTac Municipal Court, 4800 S. 188th Street, SeaTac.
