Pac West shuts out Sparks

VANCOUVER--Pac West showed why it is one of the best teams in the West when it won, 2-0, over Centennial Little League of Sparks, Nev. on Friday.
The shutout win gave the District 7 and Washington state champions a 1-2 record at the Junior League Western Regional all-star baseball tournament being played at Kindsfather Field in Vancouver.
Burien-based Pac West had opened with a 12-2 loss to Southern California champion Manhattan/Hermosa Beach on Tuesday before taking a 10-0 loss to Arizona champion Nogalas National on Thursday.
Now it is aiming to break even in the round robin portion of the tournament when it plays host East County Little League of Washougal at 6 p.m. Sunday.
The top four round-robin finishers go on to the state semifinals to be played at 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday.
Monday's winners play for the Western Regional championship at 4 p.m. Tuesday following the third-place game at 1 p.m.
The Western Regional champion advances to the Juniors age 13-14 World Series to be held in Taylor, Mich. from Aug. 9-16.
