High schools
Tryouts for high school football will open across the state on Wednesday, Aug. 20.
Contact the respective schools for more information.
Tryouts for all other fall sports begin Monday, Aug. 25.
Junior football
Practices are continuing for area junior football teams this week.
They begin at 5 p.m. each weeknight at Hiawatha for the West Seattle Wildcats and at 5:30 p.m. at the Southwest Athletic Complex for the SWAC Cougars.
The Burien Bearcats begin at 5:30 p.m. at the old Glacier High School field and the Pacific Highway Chargers start at 6 p.m. each night at Chinook Middle School.
Sounders
Tukwila will host a professional sports event Wednesday as the Seattle Sounders of Major League Soccer entertain Chicago in a 7:30 p.m. match at the Starfire complex. The Sounders train regularly at the site but usually play their matches at CenturyLink Field.
Seattle drops in on Salt Lake for an 11:30 a.m. match Saturday that can be seen on NBC Sports and hosts San Jose next Wednesday at CenturyLink on JOEtv.
Mariners
Seattle wraps up its three-game series with Toronto Wednesday, hosting the Blue Jays for a 7:10 p.m. game at Safeco Field.
The Mariners see more action with playoff implications when it visits Detroit this coming weekend. They will play 4:08 p.m. games with the Tigers on Friday and Saturday and take them on at 10:08 a.m. Sunday.
Seattle goes to Philadelphia for 4:05 p.m. action Monday and Tuesday and for a 10:05 a.m. game Wednesday.
Mariners games are carried on the ROOT Sports cable network and on 710 AM.
Seahawks
The defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks continue their exhibition season on Friday, hosting the San Diego Chargers for 7 p.m. action at CenturyLink.
Channel 13 TV will carry the game live.
Storm
Seattle visits Los Angeles for a 7:30 p.m. game Friday before wrapping up its WNBA season with 6 p.m. home action against Phoenix at KeyArena on Sunday.
NBA TV will show both games, with Sunday's game also carried on KONG TV.
Reign
Seattle's professional women's soccer team plays a 2 p.m. game at Portland on Sunday that can be seen on CSNNW.
Rainiers
The Tacoma Class AAA farm team of the Seattle Mariners is in New Orleans for 5 p.m. action each day through Friday that can be heard on 850 AM.
From there it's on to Round Rock for four games in four days.
Emerald Downs
Emerald Downs in Auburn is open for horse racing action at 6:45 p.m. Friday and at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
