Eight games; that's two full months of action. In most years that's all the time needed to decide who will be marching towards the playoffs and who will be staying home, dreaming of next year.
This year however, Chief Sealth, Nathan Hale and Ingraham all needed a couple extra outings to test their mettle and to break a three way Metro League knot in order to punch a post season ticket.
The squads, all tied for second in the Metro League, entered Memorial Stadium Tuesday night for a mini tournament, consisting of up three games, each consisting of two eight minutes halves and each team needing to win at least one game in order to advance to the league playoffs.
Sealth managed to go 1-1 on the night, making the playoffs by defeating Ingraham 27-0 after falling earlier in the evening to Nathan Hale 22-10.
The Seahawks seemed not only fresh but fired up as it took on Nathan Hale in the night's opening game; alas the Raiders came prepared as well knocking off Sealth behind a vicious two headed rushing attack.
Junior William Sanders led the way for the Raiders with 82 yards on 10 attempts but it was senior Noah Witmer who broke the Seahawks hearts rushing for 67 yards and two touchdowns, the second of which iced the game with under one minute to play.
Sealth's star running back did as much as he could to keep adding points to the scoreboard as Daron Comacho ran for 52 yards on 6 carries including an explosive 33 yard scoring scamper on the game's opening drive.
The game featured no punts and no turnovers as both team's traded blows until late in the second half when Sealth was unable to answer the Raiders two second half touchdowns, stalling out on both of its final drives.
Quarterback Weston Reed tossed for 69 yards on five throws for the Seahawks including a huge gain of 47 yards over the middle to Alloney Burris.
The big gainer set up a Sealth field goal as time expired on the first half, giving the Seahawks a 10-8 lead at the break, but the lead wouldn't hold as the Raiders came from behind for the win.
Nathan Hale found its way into the playoffs after defeating Ingraham 27-8 in the second game, forcing a game three matchup between the Seahawks and Rams, with the winner advancing to face Cleveland in the post season and the loser considering what might have been.
With the win, Hale was granted the right to face Garfield to begin next week's playoffs.
After sitting, bunched together in the South East corner of the grandstand watching the Raiders and Rams, Sealth rushed back on the field for the night's final contest, coming away with a season saving win.
Camacho continued to run strong deep into the night, amassing 108 yards on 9 carries against the Rams despite having a 61 yard first quarter touchdown run called back due to holding and a second rush of 25 yards called back on the very next play.
Reed was once again effective, completing three of three passes for 48 yards against Ingraham, including a 23 yard second half scoring strike to Ronnie Parker.
Leading 7-0 in the first half, Sealth recovered a fumble deep in Ingraham territory, setting up Camacho's second 13 yard touchdown of the contest, which gave the Seahawks a two score lead and all the momentum it would need to close out a tired Rams squad.
